In my own research, I have found the term "daughter in law" used, where in fact the relationship was what we now term step daughter." for that to be the case with the situation you describe though, I'd have assumed that the wife to the head of house would have been Elizabeth, not sophia, unless Sophia was Gabriel's 2nd wife?
