Hi all In the last few days another 95 wills and other documents have been added. About 40 of them are entries from the contemporary index of Administration Bonds, which only give the date and the name of the person (often the wife or son) to whom Admon was granted. There are also quite a lot of RYMAN and RYMILL documents. After this, unless and until someone out there can produce some wills for us, there won't be any further additions. Names of Testators (and intestates) are below: Dave Beames Coordinator ABERY ADAMS AUSTIN BADGER BALL BANTING BARTLETT BECKETT CLARKE CLINKARD COATES COCKBILL CUCKOW DOVER DOWLAND ELLIOTT FAULKNER FOGG GADFIELD GILKES GRANGE GRUBB HARRIS HAVILL HEWIN HONOR HOPKINS JACKSON JONES KING KNIPE LEGGE MAYOTT MILTON NICHOLLS PENCOT PHILLIPS RYMAN RYMILL SAVIN SHEPHERD SHERVILLE SMITH SPIER STAUNTON STEPTOE STRONG VERES WALKER WALTON WEST WESTON WHITE WHITTON WIGGINS WILLETT WOODWARD

Yes, quite right Malcolm; it's to the east ( and nearer) to Enstone. I meant that it wasn't so far away from the Chipping Norton area. .......and Mike, tried several name /place/ date combinations but havn't found her yet! TINSON could be easily mis-transcribed SINSON: LINSON: FINSON; or the "TI" may look like an "H" and so you may get HENSON HINSON HENTON........:-) Liz -----Original Message----- From: oxfordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:oxfordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Malcolm Austen Sent: 19 July 2012 11:16 To: oxfordshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [OXF] TINSON 1861 On Thu, 19 Jul 2012 10:40:57 +0100, liz <liz@lizgadd.com> wrote: > Cleveley Oxfordshire Colin Harris (well, actually the 7th Edition of Oxfordshire Parish Registers and Bishops Transcripts) says: "Cleveley - see Enstone" = Malcolm = -- Using Opera's revolutionary email client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oxfordshire FHS "wills library" is at http://wills.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/ , with references to 47,347 people and 3,980 testators. Try looking for the surname Arthur or Arthurs, Here in Fifield, which was an Arthur stronghold, documents thought to say Artiss are usually either a mis-spelling or mis-reading. From The Bristol Mercury ( Bristol, England ), Saturday, February 9, 1822; Issue 1664. BANKRUPT. T. JARVIS , Adderbury, Oxfordshire, fellmonger. Solicitors Mr. CHILTON , Chancery-lane; and CHURCHILL & FIELD , Deddington.
Glancing at censuses, the only Frederick Bartram I see in most of them who was born about that time gave his birthplace as Stamford, Lincolnshire, & appeared in the 1841-51 censuses living there. But in the 1861 census, both he and the one in Faversham are shown. Frederick Peter in Abingdon is aged 5 in the 1851 census. It's hard to see how he could get away with adding 17 years to his age in 1861, or be running a newspaper aged 14, but in the 1881 census he turns up as a clothier in Warwick, giving his place of birth as Abingdon, with a wife (6 years older) from Oare, Kent - which is just outside Faversham. All I know about him is that he was born around 1829 in Oxford. He managed the Kentish Faversham mercury between 1860 and 1863, giving up its management due to ill-health. He probably earlier was involved in newspaper production. >> >> Richard Goulden >> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ >> Oxfordshire FHS "wills library" is at http://wills.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/ , >> with references to 47,347 people and 3,980 testators.
