I am looking for baptisms for several children of William and Sarah Gibbs when they were living in Shotover between about 1829 and 1838. There does not seem to be a church in Shotover so I was wondering where any baptisms are likely to have taken place. Their first 2 children, were baptised (and buried) at St Thomas, Oxford. 7 later children were all baptised at St Giles. Ann Adelaide, William and Jane Gibbs (born about 1831, 1832 and 1836 respectively) consistently given their birthplace as Shotover in census returns. Ellen Gibbs also gives Shotover as her birthplace but there are baptisms for her and brother James (I have not be able to find him after the 1841 census) in 1835 in Headington parish registers. There is also a Thorpe William Gibbs, born about 1829 as he was buried in1838 age 9 at St Thomas, who may have been born in Shotover. I would be grateful for any suggestions or assistance Regards Rosemary Auckland, New Zealand

According to the 1873 Return of Landowners, the Fenemores at that time only owned just over 1 acre in the Witney area. They were much bigger farmers in the Launton area where they had a couple of holdings totaling about 80 acres and another acre in the Steeple Aston area. http://www.genoot.com/eng/oxf/landowners/landowner_e-f.html On Wed, Aug 1, 2012 at 11:47 PM, Catherine Hitchens <catherine.lordlandry@yahoo.co.uk> wrote: > Duttons Farm, Asthall Leigh, was farmed by Philip Gould (My great uncle) > who married Kitty Fenemore daughter of Joseph and then farmed Duttons Farm, > but there were no offspring. Duttons Farm, Asthall Leigh, was farmed by Philip Gould (My great uncle) who married Kitty Fenemore daughter of Joseph and then farmed Duttons Farm, but there were no offspring. They lived in Minster Lovell in retirement. Philip formerly farmed Peashell Farm, Curbridge with his brothers James and Ernest, although their father, William Thomas, actually lived at Stanhope Cottage, Curbridge. Hello Lynne, The Oxford Museum has a collection of milk bottles from the dairy. You can see them on their web-site. If you copy this extraordinary long address and paste it on your browser, you should be able to click on 'search' for the photos. http://publicapps.oxfordshire.gov.uk/wps/portal/publicapps/!ut/p/c5/hY3LDoIwFEQ_6d5SaO2yRaU1CIoLoRvSGIJNeLgwJv69ENfVmeWZB1hYPLmX793Tz5MboAbLWrahVWIExSxPt2hEKRVNK4qcLLxh7VFoEu2TGMtLHqPRqqgOSiJm0Z_2df0LJyj58l_7K8eAJEKh57GDBiwPvWQ7Ds3Q9e72hsdYoz_dzx9VXrH_/dl3/d3/L0lJSklna21DU1EhIS9JRGpBQU15QUJFUkNKRXFnLzRGR2dzbzBWdnphOUlBOW9JQSEhLzdfNjgzUjVJOTMwR0xDRDBJOU9BQjNDUjNHRTcvTFNrWWs4ODQ4MDAyOS9zYS5zcGZfQWN0aW9uTGlzdGVuZXI!/?PC_7_683R5I930GLCD0I9OAB3CR3GE70n2826_spf_strutsAction=!2fresultsSearch.do!3fmethod%3dresultsSearch!26archiveName%3dmusmodes2012 If this doesn't work, go on the Oxfordshire County Council web-site and then look for heritage search and enter Asthal Leigh dairy. Let me know if you still have difficulties. Of course, this won't directly give detailed information, but possibly you could get this by contacting the Oxfordshire Museum Service. Mike, So sorry, I checked every parish in Chipping Norton, using both surname spellings, but could find neither Hannah (d.1910) or her husband John (d.1903). Wherever can they be ? I wouldn't have missed two burial entries. I did note that the Chadlington index only goes to 1880 and Spelsbury to 1892. John & Hannah are not on the 3rd edition of the NBI. I checked what I could from the parishes covered by the GRO Chipping Norton registration district. Do you know how to use that ? Click on the place name and then on the blue underlined word 'here where it says ' further information can be found here' I rarely go to St Luke at Cowley to search original records so maybe you could ask someone to look for you at Chadlington & Spelsbury. Finally, did you find that Samuel ROBINSON left a will when he died in 1891 Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: Mike in Droitwich Cc: oxfordshire@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, July 31, 2012 3:06 PM Subject: Re: [OXF] Hannah HALL/MANDRILL/ROBINSON/HARWOOD after 1901 Thanks Pat I have Chipping Norton CD1 and she is not on that one. This is a reminder that this society's Open Day will again be held at The Marlborough School just outside Woodstock on Saturday 6 October 2012. The Open Day will feature the usual assortment of visiting Societies, publishers, dealers in second hand books and postcards, and the like. Our own society's range of transcripts and search services will be available for consultation, whilst we will also be manning a beginners' helpdesk. Additionally, there will be computing demonstrations, which will give advice on such things as which genealogical software package to choose, and the use of the internet in family history. Admission to the Open Day is free, as is the on-site car park. Light refreshments will be on sale at reasonable prices. Further details can be found at :- http://www.ofhs.org.uk/OpenDay.html Any queries, please let me know. Paul Gaskell Publicity Officer Oxfordshire Family History Society Website : www.ofhs.org.uk

However in my rush as I was near a car park time limit I forgot to write the date of the inventory down. Has anyone access to this publication and can tell me the date please ? Many thanks Alan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oxfordshire FHS "wills library" is at http://wills.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/ , with references to 47,347 people and 3,980 testators.
