Micheal Coomber posted this extract from the Jacksons Oxford Journal This is to give Notice that, by an Indenture bearing date the 8th day of Jan. 1847, MARY ANN GADNEY , of the city of Oxford, in the county of Oxford, dealer in Berlin wool, hath assigned all her Estate and Effects whatsoever to James LINDSAY , of Bread-street, in the city of London, importer of Berlin wool, and Abel QUARTERMAN , of the city of Oxford aforesaid, breeches maker, as Trustees upon Trust for the benefit of all the creditors of her the said Mary Ann GADNEY; and that the said Indenture was duly executed by the said Mary Ann GADNEY and Abel QUARTERMAN on the said 8th day of January 1847, and by the said James LINDSAY on the 12th day of January 1847, and which Indenture, as to the execution thereof by the said Mary Ann GADNEY and etc. Does anyone know what this means, is it some sort of process associated with bankruptcy? Is Mary Ann simply giving her business to Abel Quarterman (her brother in law)? Certainly by 1851 she has changed her profession, as have her two sisters who were in business with her in 1841 . Any insights will be gratefully recieved. Ray G

thought it looked interesting but so far none of 'my' Royal Artillery folk that I have found served out there. Found one who was with the Royal Invalids (old soldiers who have served in the RA who stayed on to do light duties) who was retired 'due to being old and worn out' in 1796. Richard If it is just one medal and the photo was taken at the end of the war then its likely to be the Victory medal - given to all soldiers who survived. Most also got the British medal according to the record cards. I have had a run through the WW1 medal cards on ancestry and these are the medals each George/George William Self received. What I like about the records on find my past is that you get to see his personal details too. Its amused me with a couple of mine where they were measured on attestation and again when leaving to see that had grown am inch or two! If you google Royal Artillery India campaigns you get a link to a book that covers the period he was in India - post mutiny but never a quiet posting from what little I remember of Indian history. Many thanks Hilary, yes that is correct, that is why I thought of Burford or Bampton. Wendy has to have the prize though. I didn't think of looking in Colin's book, when I should have as it is so comprehensive in its covering. That has sorted that one, as sometimes the family are in Hinton and sometimes Longworth. Were these places on the old sheep drovers' routes from Wales? Shhep Street in Burford marks one route, and there is the Welsh House in the corner of the market square in Northampton that marks the end of the drovers' travels. Hello Listers, I keep coming across people mentioned 'of Wales' in these wills of Draycott Moor (Southmoor), in the Longworth PR even the baptism of one, Richard Southby has Wales besides his name. Two wills dated 1570 and 1628 use this phrase. Is this a place in Bampton or Burford I wonder? Also has anyone come across Faringdon as Chipping Faringdon? I have been trying to discover where this place can possibly be. Many thanks for any help given. Jill
