Owings. The confusion comes from Col. Ninian Beal Richard's commanding officer in the Royal Potomac Rangers. There are no Rachel's in Ninian's family. Owen Humphrey is pretty much speculation although some of Owen's children did take the Owings surname - it is a mystery still to be solved. My line is Joshua as well - he is the youngest son. He was a active Methodist. My 6th great grandfather Rev. Richard Owings was the first American born Methodist preacher and circuit rider.
