I have a friend tied into the SC Owings family and I'm assuming he is related to them, but doesn't show up in that family tree. My guess is that he got left out. If that's the case, then he would be Richard Mancil Owings. But I have absolutely no clear idea what it stands for. I've got his marriage record (RM Owings), his enlistment records (RM), census (RM or Richard M). Any thoughts on where else I can go? Your question has made me think, though. His son had the same name and middle initial, so if I can track down anything definite on his middle name, it might give an idea.
