Author: glasgowbliss Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.owings/222.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As far as I can tell, the spelling was always known to the family as OWENS. Others may have mispelled it Owings, as there were Owings in the area, but the family never did refer to each other as Owings--always only OWENS. Author: DavidOwings70 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.owings/410.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jessica, I can not rule him in our out as an Owings. Many Owings reverted to the simpler form of Owen/s and very few records exist of them. If you can find the "Owings & Allied Families" 1st edition - it did contain the variations. If he is an Owings and Richard was a very common name in the family - we can narrow down the Owings lines that lived in Alabama and the deep south. My own line are in Warren and Simpson County, Kentucky in the 1818 timeframe. Y DNA would tell you if he is an Owings for sure. 1. [OWINGS] Do you have a Richard Owen (various spellings ) man in your family lines?
    2. geri
    3. For decades there has been so much confusion on separating the many "Richard Owen" men who immigrated to the colonies. I hope to separate them out by compiling a time line chart on all Richard Owen/Owens/Owings men,(all spellings included) between the years 1600 to 1720 for analysis , comparison of areas, men, records of incidents, family members, friends, etc..... to pull the individual families into their respective lines if possible. Huge task to be sure. . If you have a Richard Owen in your line during this time, I would appreciate your input, along with past researchers, and mine, to make this as accurate as possible. If you care to share, I will need the following information if you have it: The year, name (spelling), area/county/state, Record, source, description of record, wife, notes... Any and all info during the time period will be helpful in showing where they settled, stayed, marriages, land bought, when died. Etc....... ....ie.... 1620.. Richard "Richardi" Ohen (Owen).. Maryland. Immigration record....Scribe Skribbler book, page 3...transported. from Timbucktoo...indentured servant to Joe Blow. Notes: served his time, bought land 7 years later named "Free at Last".. Later settled in VA.... 4 wives..’Mari, Joan, Sue, and Crazy’..... He was a servant, boatwright, carpenter, crook,. Had umpteen kids.... Hanged In year 1690 in VA for bigamy...buried in VA. As you can probably tell the above is just a sample and not accurate records, lol. So with it in mind anything you would be willing to share will be greatly appreciated. All descriptive information hopefully will help and allow a separation of these old grandfathers so we can finally end the confusion and misinformation that keeps being passed around and recorded.. Full credit will be given to you for your contribution. I will post a copy on my website when I am finished. Please note this work will not be for sale, nor resale as it is being done solely for the purpose of straightening out this frightful mess that has been created over the years. Hopefully it will achieve this by using all the info and a good time line. . If not, lol, then perhaps, I will just go ahead and put my head through the dang brick wall, so I can ask that old grandfather of mine in person; "Who the heck are your parents and where did you come from."?. LOL You may contact me at [email protected] And hey..... if you decide to share or not, Thanks for your consideration and for reading this.
