I talked to Addison before his death when I got his OK to reprint the book. He determined that anyone who changed the spelling from Owings to Owens would not be tracked very far. In the 2nd edition (I have never seen a 1st edition) he came all the way to my great grandmother, Susan Owens Brasington. In his 3rd edition, he only went as far as her grandfather. Part of the reason he dropped the line was the size of the book. Both are around 750 pages. There may be other branches dropped. I basically was tracking just mine. The 2nd edition was typed while the 3rd (final0 edition was type set. The 2nd edition pages are not quite as readable and I scanned them out of bound book, so there are the black shadows around the edges, absent from the 3rd edition scans. I will let you know when I am done. I have scanned all 750+ pages and am working on the navigation now. I am the Bil with the CD. As a by product of a reprint of the final edition (3rd) of Addison Owings' book on Captain owings and his descendents, I retained an unbound copy of his book. I scanned the book, developed basic html to navigate it, and I make it available for $16.50 on CD. I will run on any release of Windows from 95 thur Vista. May run on MAC I just don't know. I have scanned the 2nd edition (includes some people like my limb) not in 3rd. I am working on intergrating with current CD but it will only be avilable on DVD, due to size. I will price it a bit higher maybe 3 or 4 dollars but and will ship to CD buyes for the difference plus Shipping costs (around $2). Be happy to send a page from the CD to let you see the quality of the scanW A "Bil" Brasington Scotch-Irish - Brewed in Scotland, bottled in Ireland, uncorked in America. To steal from one person is plagiarism. Hi: My mother's mom is Stella Owings married to Grover Cleveland Neathamer. I saw my mom's tree for the first time and was suprised to see that my mother had a younger sister whom died in youth and she never told me. I am curious about the book written by Addison Owings, my cousing. I'm the youngest of the clan; my mother is Christine Neathamer married to Lee davidson, my father; they had 9 children total. I'm the youngest. Where can I trace the genenlogy past my great-great grandfather, whose name is Preston H. Owings; who was his parents and grand parents, all the way to Captain Richard I Owings? Keep in touch, Tina L. Davidson-Ristine-Freethy _________________________________________________________________ Give to a good cause with every e-mail. Stella Owings married to Grover Cleveland Neathamer is on page 574 of the Addison Owings' book. They had 9 children. Your mother is listed and a younger sister, Loraine, who died in childhood. It looks like Stella's father was Benjamin Franklin Owings, who was the 4th son of Preston Holcomb and Frances Elvira (Crosswhite) Owings. Benjamin Franklin Owings b. in Audrain Co., Missouri, 14 August 1852 and d. 10 October 1907. He married Mary Koster ca. 1874. They had 9 children. They moved from Iowa by 1879 to Jackson Co., Oregon. He and his wife died at Rogue River, Oregon and were buried at Woodville Cemetery there. He died before his wife and she remarried. You may can find this book in a library and sometimes for sale on ebay. Some one made a CD he is selling. If you read the Owings threads you will see discussions of the book and the CD. His name is Bill and I think you will be able to find him. Elinor **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food. Author: caserini Surnames: Owings, Hershey Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.owings/416/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to place my great-great grandmother in the Owings family tree but so far with no luck. The reason I know her maiden name is because it's on her 1892 marriage license from Ohio. She married Henry C. Hershey from Ohio and had 3 children. She was born 15 Oct 1876 in Kentucky (on marriage license) and she shows up in Ohio for the 1900, 1910, 1920, & 1930 census. She died in Cincinnati on 22 Nov 1960. She goes by Nellie in the first 2 census, so I assumed she would be Nellie in the 1880 census. The only Nellie Owings I found was listed as living in Lexington with a birthdate abt. 1866. I assumed that was her with just a census error (there are so many!), but after some digging, I found the book "Owings and allied families, 1685-1985 : a genealogy of some of the descendants of Richard Owings I of Maryland" [found here: http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/FH14&CISOPTR=19293&REC=2 ) and that Nellie was married to someone else. Can anyone place her? I would be so appreciative! Casey Gilliam Zgonc Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
