    1. Reprint or Richard Owings and Family
    2. Bil Brasington
    3. I have sent this out before and I apologize for those who have seen it. DO'ing for new folks on the list. In 1985, Addison Owings published the 3rd Edition of his excellent book on Captain Richard Owings and his family. This book is a priceless work for those of who descended from this early Maryland pioneer. A group of us are trying to get the book reprinted and the goal is 50 copies at $67.50 a copy and we are at 44. No new data will be added. This is likely the last time it will be reprinted and Addison will NEVER do edition 4. If you are interested and/or looking for the perfect gift for an Owings descendent or your local library, contact me and get on the list. The next level after 50 is 100 and unless you want 56, we will never get that high. At 50, I am cutting it off and ordering. After that, you are on your own. Please see on the internet two of several somewhat conflicting pedigrees: http://www.angelfire.com/wa2/Gsows/Owens.html and http://users.erols.com/fmoran/owens.html Also see these books: "The Family Search of Clarence Rice Owens" Compiled from his Notes by Katharine Bruce Jones Published by California Genealogical society San Francisco Gateway Press, In. Baltimore 1975 which relies extensively upon DM Owings' findings (below) and "The History of the Owings Family" by Donnell MacClure Owings, Ph.D. LDS Salt Lake City microfilm File # 428026 which supports most, but not all, of the above. There is very much uncertainty as to Rachel's correct origin and surname and documented parentage and origin for Captain Richard Owens/Owings, Carpenter. "Owings and Allied Families" by Addison D. and Elizabeth S. Owings. I have just received an extensive (397 pg) set of notes compiled by Donnell MacClure Owings, Ph.D., who was the primary basis for all the above genealogies. and see "The Origins of the Stinchcombe Families" on the internet at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/1402/stinchcomb.htm which also includes the variant spelling of "Stinchcomb". Much, much more to share. If you want a copy of the notes, drop me an e-mail. Best wishes, Brad Veek Prescott, AZ

    1. Question on Owings's Health and Diseases
    2. Geraldine Guzman
    3. Fellow Owen/Owens/Owings , has anyone in your family had any genetic diseases, ie.. hemophiliac, diabetes, etc.....? Perhaps a study this way also could help in tracking our ancestors . My two eldest sons were born mildly hemophilic. They gave series of Fibrinogen shots to get them through the early years, it is pretty well taken care of now. My next to eldest still has 'wild' nose bleeds from time to time. but nothing like it use to be , same with injuries, and most all of his bruising is not bad. No serious bleeding since child. They ,the doctors, told me I was the carrier. Have seen no other in our immediate family but wonder about the ancestors. Where did I get it from, Father perhaps. or a more distant female ancestor ? Dad was not hemophiliac. Female is the carrier, but can be transmitted directly . Father to daughter and son. Lot of Prostrate cancer my Owings side. Dad and his two brothers died from it, and oldest brother is now having trouble along with my youngest who has enlargement of prostrate. Lots of Lung cancer down through family, both sides. Not a lot of heart disease but some deaths by it in later yrs. I noticed a lot of boys died very young in our family line of Owings also. No cause sited. No diabetes No mental illness, at least not documented, lol. Propensity for alcoholism if not checked Arthritis a yes on all fronts. Osteo. and RA RA type usually is prominent if Native American blood is present. It was mainly prevelent in this race around the 30 yr mark for women according to studys done . (Smile, I read the doctors books in his office, sneaky) I contracted this in 1973 when 30 . Went in remission and has been dormant since 1975. ( Someday I will tell what I used to make it go into remission, Drs will not support it though, lol ) A lot of times it was misdiagnosed in children at early age, as 'growing pains'. As in my case unknown to my parents, I had it severely when 5, and wore copper bracelets on ankles and wrists, that my dad made for me. This was explained to me as Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis by the doctor later. This has not been proven one way or the other to be heredity at my last reading, but medicine has greatly advanced with genes. So it could be an errant gene or suspected as one, I have no data. I have Amblyopia, but it is from mothers side and I passed it on to my children, heriditary. Mom did not have it, carrier I guess, not sure. But nothing from Dad's side on eyes. My siblings have it to slight degree, not needing glasses to straighten eyes. but it shows on them if very tired or sick. If you are willing to share, I am very interested to know about others with heredity diseases from Owings side only.. Geri
