    3. Most of you know that I headed a project in 2001/2002 to reprint Addison Owings' book "Captain Richard Owings And Allied Families" and scanned the book to CD ROM (for those who don't know, I distribute that CD for $15). I have just found out that Edition 3 was the last but was not inclusive, that there was data and people in Editions 1 & 2 that were left out in Edition 3, I assume due to size (Edition 3 is 750+ pages). Dropped in Edition 3 was, of course my line for the sin of spelling their name as Owens. I don't know how much data was dropped but would like to find out. Finding Editions 1 & 2 buyng them will not be easy and a bit costly in time and money to create CD's for each. I was wondering if there was any interest on the mailing list. So my questions are: 1) How much would you pay for a copy of Edition 1 in book form (a reprint like we did for Edition 3) 2) How much would you pay for same Edition on CD ROM1) How much would you pay for a copy 3) How much would you pay for a copy of Edition 2 in book form (a reprint like we did for Edition 3) 4) How much would you pay for same Edition on CD ROM I would suggest they same plan as last time. If there is enough interest (read that to be checks miled to me), I would head the project again and deliver the product. Thoes in the last project know that my word is my bond and I am more than willing to pass along my list of everyone I sold a book to for you to check. You know Addison passed away in Jan 2002 and his wife, Elizabeth, preceded him in June of 2000. I chatted with his son and got the OK to CD the 3rd edition and would do likewise on the other 2. He indicated his interest level did not include a 4th edition. If anyone out there is willing to commit to a 4th edition, I will pass along contact information adn see if he would work with you. That project is not for me. So let me know about your thoughts on this matter. I have the computer skills to pull this off and willing to spend the time. It is the funds that concern me. Lastly, I would appreciate your GEDCOM's on you Owings line. Will take your whole GEDCOM on break off what I need. I included an up to date GEDCOM on the Addison tree on the CD ROM and wish it to be as inclusive as possible. 3. Anybody have a copy of or access to Addison Owings 2nd edition?? I have been told that there is information about my line that was clipped from the 3rd? My line is Richard > Richard > Richard > Archibald (born in MD in 1750). 3rd Edition has data about his children and some about his grandchildren but have been led to believe 2nd edition has more? 3. All information prior to Captain Richard Owings is a matter of some discusssion and much difference of opinion. There is some dispute over the maiden name of Richard's wife, Rachel. I believe that the Captain was Richard Owen, born as a Humphrey in Wales, immigrated intio the Welsh tract in Pa, and then to Maryland. 3. The reprint we did of Addison's book on Captain Richard Owings was pretty much a pre-sold effort. I ordered 10 extra and they sold quickly. What I did do was to buy the proof copy (unbound), scan the 750+ pages into my computer, create a GEDCOM from it, and build an index. I also built the HTML to use the book online. All of this I rolled up into a CD ROM I sell at the outrageous price of $15, postage paid. The supply will never run out since I burn them as I get an order. Be happy to give you a list of the folks who bought it and you can get there views on its worth, The scanned images are as good as the book and if you let me know you line, will send you a page with your ancestor on it so you can see what you are getting before you buy. Per Addiosn Owings' book (3rd Edition Page 222) Ancestors of Lewis Solomon OWINGS - 15 Feb 2004 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIRST GENERATION 1. Lewis Solomon OWINGS was born on September 6, 1820. He was buried in August 1875 in Denison, Grayson County, TX. He died on August 22, 1875 in Denison, Grayson County, TX. He is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 222. He was the Confederate Provisional Governor of Arizona and First Mayor of Denison, Texas ( Presdient Eisenhower's birthplace) SECOND GENERATION 2. John OWINGS was born about 1790 in Rowan County, NC. He died before 1850. He is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 221. He was married to Sarah RUSSELL on November 28, 1812 in Rowan County, NC. 3. Sarah RUSSELL is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 221. THIRD GENERATION 4. Edward OWINGS was born about 1766 in Maryland, Baltimore County, MD. He died in August 1857 in Roane County, TN. He was buried in August 1857 in Roane County, TN. He is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 220. He was married to Elizabeth SUMPTER in 1787 in Burke County, NC. 5. Elizabeth SUMPTER was born about 1767. She died about 1845 in Roane County, TN. She is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 220. She was a niece of Gen. Thomas O. SUMPTER, who won the soubriquet of the Game Cock of the Carolinas. FOURTH GENERATION 8. Bezaleel OWINGS was born about 1721 in Baltimore County, MD. He died before 1790 in North Carolina. He is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 198, 219. He was married in 1762 in Baltimore County, MD. 10. William SUMPTER is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 220. He was married to Judith RANDALL. 11. Judith RANDALL is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 220. FIFTH GENERATION 16. Henry OWINGS was born about 1692 in Anne Arundel County, MD. He died in June 1763 in Baltimore County, MD. He is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 3, 198. He was married to Helen STINCHCOMB about 1718 in Baltimore County, MD. 17. Helen STINCHCOMB was born about 1700. She died about May 1784. She is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 198. SIXTH GENERATION 32. Captain Richard OWINGS was born on March 7, 1658/59 in Llangelynin, Llangelynin, Montgomeryshire, Wales. Also some indication he was born in London as late as 1680. He immigrated before 1684/85 to Anne Arundel County, MD. A Passenger Record for Richard Owings and Rachel Roberts as his wife. He served in the military between October 18, 1697 and May 16, 1701 in Baltimore County, MD. He served as Captain of the Rangers on the Potomac River until the Rangers were disbanded. The duties of the Rangers were to protect the inhabitants of the area from attacks of "unfriendly Indians". For the remainder of his life Richard Owings was referred to as Captain Richard Owings. He died on November 14, 1716 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, MD. He is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 1. He was also known as Richard ap Owen. The earliest record which we have of OWINGS in the American Colonies is of Richard OWINGS who was in Anne Arundel County Maryland by 1684/5. He may have been the Richard Owin, son of Richard Owin and Ann Phillis baptized 7 March 1659 at St. Botolph, London, England (from the International Genealogical Index, pp.93,244). A David OWING was born in St. Crux, York, Yorkshire, England ca. 1617 and married 16 Jan. 1642 at St. Crux, Ellen Hay (born ca. 1621) (Yorks Y 21 St. Crux, p.127). Another theory is that Richard father was Richard, born in England in 1625, emigrated to America, where he married Ann Randall, with my Richard being born in Maryland. We have found no passenger list of any ship on which he might have come to Maryland, but the fact that he was a debtor to the estate of Christopher Randall, 20 March 1684/5 (Original Inventories, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Box 5, folder 31) proves that he was there. He brought with him his. wife Rachel and infant daughter Rachel. My feeling is that there were several Richard Owings/Owens in Maryland at the time and their lines are forever muddled. Whether or not he descended from Wales nobility is of great debate amongst the descendants and of no importance to me. I am an American and take great pride in being able to tie my blood to an early settler. He may have been of the ancient and noble house of OWAINS GLENDOWER, a decendant of the last ruling house of Llwewllyn in Wales before its final annexation to England. As for his surname, I have seen OWAINS, OWINGS, and OWENS. Take your choice. He was married to Rachell Ap ROBERT about 1680. 33. Rachell Ap ROBERT was born about 1660 in Llwyn, Dedinydd, Wales. She died on May 27, 1729 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, MD. She is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 2. 34. Captain Nathaniel STINCHCOMB was born in Maryland. He is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 198, 346. He was married to Hannah RANDALL. 35. Hannah RANDALL was born about 1684 in Maryland. She is listed on Addison Owings' Book, Page # 198, 346. His family I am told came from Wales to VA and then on into GA. I can't find any info on his parents or his brothers or sisters. I hope someone can help me to break this brick wall. Thanks in advance. If God brings you to it...He will bring you through it. Have a Great Day!!! Betty
