    1. Great article by W. T. "Bill" Block on Thomas Deye Owings
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cockey, Owings, Deye, BISHOP, Royston, Morrison, Colegate, et. al. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CV4.2ACEB/274 Message Board Post: W. T. "Bill" Block is an 84 year old Texas man who has no family connection to the OWINGS line. Nonetheless, he has written a fantastic article on Thomas Deye OWINGS (1776 - 1853), son of John Cockey OWINGS and Colegate Deye Colgate. Bill is an inspiration as he was a WWII veteran who served our country with honor and distinction. He came back, worked for the Post Office for many years, and toward the end of his career decided to go to college to get his degree. He did so while working full-time, and got his B.A. in History. He then enrolled in a graduate program and received his M. A. in History. He began writing at about age 55, and has been a prolific writer. Check out the article at his web site: http://www.wtblock.com/wtblockjr/thomas_deye_owings.htm Also, browse for the article on Lieutenant Benedict Francis Van Pradelles, husband of Cassandra Deye Owings, daughter of John Cockey and Colegate Owings. I'd also encourage you to read about Bill's life, it will inspire you and urge you to continue your work, consider getting it into writing, and attempt publication. Please sign his guest book and thank him for his work which will enrich all OWINGS descendants!

    1. Re: [OWINGS] Re: Agnes A. (OWINGS) ALTHOFF Obituary
    2. JAMESB BISHOP
    3. David, You posted and posed a question concerning my earlier message of 15 August concerning Agnes A. (OWINGS) ALTHOFF. Your question was: Jim, I have this line as: Capt. Richard, Robert, William, William, John, Aloysius. This is the same line of Mary Margaret Josephine Owings 1839-1907 - namesake of Maria Owings Shriver. Is this incorrect? I am not an expert, but "OWINGS and ALLIED FAMILIES" by Addison D. and Elizabeth Owings has the lineage of descent from Captain Richard OWINGS to Agnes A. (OWINGS) ALTHOFF as detailed in my posting: Capt. Richard, Robert, Robert, Aloysius, Eusebius, Agnes. Thus, I think that you have an extra generation. I have found other errors in Owings and Allied Families, but am not able to help since I don't have anything that would equal your Mary Margaret Josephine Owings 1839 - 1907? Can someone else help here? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2004 4:32 PM Subject: [OWINGS] Re: Agnes A. 2. 23rd Psalm For Genealogists Genealogy is my pastime. I shall not stray. It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried Tombstones It leadeth me into still Courthouses. It restoreth my Ancestral Knowledge. It leadeth me into the Paths of Census Records and Ships Passenger Lists for my Surnames' sake. Yea, though I wade through the Shadows of Research Libraries and Microfilm Readers, I shall fear no Discouragement, for a Strong Urge is with me. The curiosity and Motivation, they Comfort me. It demandeth preparation of Storage Space for the Acquisition of Countless Documents. It annointeth my Head with burning Midnight Oil, My Family Group Sheets runneth over. Surely Birth, Marriage and Death dates shall follow me all the Days of my life: and I shall dwell in the House of a Family History Seeker Forever.
