With all due respect Lee I must make a slight correction to your response. Having the list default set to return all replies to the list does not prevent your mail program from performing as designed. When you click on "Reply" or "Reply All" your mail program extracts the e-mail address / address's it is to respond to from that msg.'s headers, and that/ those address are put in the headers by the Rootsweb mail handling software. In the Headers, there are two lines your mail prog. looks for: 1. Reply-To: 2. Return-Path: When you click on "Reply", your mail prog. looks for #1 first, if it finds one, that is the address it uses ,,,, if it does not find one, it uses the address in the #2 line. When you click on "Reply All", your mail prog. uses both #1 & #2 For List mail, #2 will always be the list address ,,,, what is in the #1 line depends on how the Original-Sender has their mail prog. set up. If the sender has their "Reply To:" option filled in, then that is the address in #1 ,,, if they do not have it filled in, then RW will insert the list address. (in List mail, there is always a #1 line ,,,, not so for private mail) So, when you "Reply" you may get the Senders address(#1) or the List address(#1). And when you "Reply All", you may get the Senders address(#1) + the List address(#2) or the List address(#1) + the List address(#2). This explains how you can get a double List address for "Reply All" and has nothing to do with your mail prog. being prevented from performing as designed. Bob, I clicked "Reply All" to return a message to You and the List. Please let me know if you get this message directly From Me and another From The List.. I Need To Know!! Thanks, G. Lee Hearl Authentic Appalachian Storyteller Abingdon, Va.
Lee ,,, I got this msg. through the list ,,,,,,,, did not get one in private. When you clicked on Reply All for my post, you should have gotten a double list address ,, I do not have my "Reply To:" option filled in. The only way you can get my personal address into a Reply/All is to Copy&Paste it into the msg. "To:" field. I do not use the "Reply To:" option because by default, all mail prog.'s will Reply to the sender ,,, when you receive a msg. from the list, the List is the sender. The "Reply To:" option in your mail prog is for people who send mail from one computer / account and want to receive any replies on a different computer / account. (send from work & receive at Home) Do I detect a bit of confusion on how all this works. <g> Bob _______________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "G.
