Dear Kathy, If it is a Word document, you can download for free a "MS Word 97 Viewer" from the Microsoft site. Go to their site and do a search for it. This Viewer will allow you to read only the document. You can't edit the document. If you want to edit it, you will have to buy the full program from Microsoft. If the attachments are too light, I can read with the viewer. I have done this with great results. I don't have the Word program, only Word Pad. There is a difference. Good luck.
