Can anyone sched any light on the following Why is my oulook express showing as working online when I am disconnected. I know that if you have it as working offline and you send/receive it will prompt you you to go online but when the connection to the internet drops the line it still shows at the bottom working online all of the time. I have always had it this way but I am curious why this working online offline is necessary for outlook express. Comments appreciated John Stevens MAM Software Ltd [email protected]
John & Sue ,,,, the On Line / Off Line thing is more of a question generator than anything else. It is not an automatic switch that detects what mode you are in, it stays in which ever mode you put it in until you change it. Some people set up OE to automatically log on to their ISP every time they start OE, I am not sure (I never use it) but I think it can be used to stop the log on prompt when actually working Off Line if you are set up to auto. log on when OE is open. You can turn it on and off by double clicking on it in the bottom status bar. Not much of an answer but all I have. Thank you Bob, This solved a problem that I have been having for a long, long time. I have my OE set up to automatically log on to my ISP, so anytime anyone sent me mail that was written in HTML, and I was reading my mail off-line, the log on window would come up. I click "cancel" and it would fade and then come up again. Sometimes 6 or 7 times. Now I can turn it off (by double clicking on it in the bottom status bar), and I am able now to read the e-mails without that irritation. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. P.S. I really learn more about Windows 98 from your answers and this list, than anything else. And for that -- thank-you.... The "Help" menus usually don't help me because I always look up the wrong word or phrase. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Hays" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 02, 2000 6:42 PM Subject: Re: [OE] working online and working offline <snip> > Some people set up OE to automatically > log on to their ISP every time they start OE, I am not sure (I never use it) but I > think it can be used to stop the log on prompt when actually working Off Line if you > are set up to auto. log on when OE is open. > You can turn it on and off by double clicking on it in the bottom status bar. > Not much of an answer but all I have. > Bob Hays >
