Bob, Thanks for all your help. Right now I am just concentrating on trying to subscribe to an AT&T newsgroup, as they are already configured in my mail. All settings are as you mentioned, except that "Always connect to this account using" is checked and underneath is the drop-down menu with Local Area Network showing. I am assuming these are the original settings as I was using newsgroups before very easily. You suggested that the above "Always connect...." be unchecked. Would that affect anything else, do you think? This computer appears to be very proprietary. When I change settings to accomplish one thing, it appears to affect another. Mostly, I like it. But it does get a little irritating at times. It is great for graphics, and it has some nice features. Oh,the port setting is 119. Wonder why the error message says 0? Also thinking out loud about why they SSL would be involved when it is unchecked.
