Hi, I got a laptop today that I have connected to a dial up ISP. My main PC is connected via AT&T broadband/DSL. The laptop has Windows ME, and OE. How can I receive the same email on it that comes through on the PC? I talked to ATT and they want me to configure it through them which is $14.95 plus .15 a minute. I don't want the ATT service, just the OE, using Compuserve. To start with, you need to know your complete AT&T mail set up ,,, armed with that info.: Tools / Accounts / Mail tab / Add GENERAL Tab 1. Enter a name for your new account (such as AT&T) 2. Type in a name you want to be known as (does not have to be true) 3. Type in your AT&T email address. 4. It is best to leave the "Reply To" address empty. 5. Put a check mark in the little box at bottom left.,,, "Include this account -- -- -- -- -- -- -- ) SERVER Tab 1. My incoming mail server is a POP3 2. Incoming mail (POP3): mail.AT&T.net (something like that ,,, get from AT&T account) 3. Outgoing mail (SMPT): mail.AT&T.net (something like that ,,, get from AT&T account) 4. Account Name: your AT&T log on mail account username (not this mail account name) 5. Password: your AT&T log on mail account password 6. Check mark in "Remember Password CONNECTION Tab 1. No selections ,,,,, leaving this inactive allows your computer to use "Any Available" connection. SECURITY Tab 1. No selections ,,,,, Algorithm may have a value in it ,,, ignore it. ADVANCED Tab 1. Outgoing mail (SMPT): 25 2. Incoming mail (POP3): 110 3. Server Timeouts = 1-3 minutes 4. No other selections Above is the set up for a POP3 account, check your AT&T account to see what it is and collect all the correct info to set up its' account. When you click on ADD, the account set up wizard will open and it will not be exactly like the above sequence, not to worry, do the best you can. When it is finished, you can click on this accounts "Properties" and follow the outline above and change anything that needs changing. When done and working, you will have two accounts, 1 at Compuserve (your default) & 1 at AT&T ,,, when you check for mail on the Laptop, it will check for mail on both accounts. One problem you may have is trying to reply to a msg. from AT&T ,,, most servers will not "Relay" which means they will not send out a msg. that was not received through their own server. ,,, If this happens, when the "Reply to" msg. is open, look to the far right of the "From:" field, there is a small Down arrow, click on this arrow and select your AT&T account and try again. Good luck Bob Hays _________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue M" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 16, 2001 12:29 AM Subject: [OE] reading mail from laptop > Hi, > I got a laptop today that I have connected to a dial up ISP.
