    3. Hello Everyone. I am having major problems with O/E. For some reason it seems to be having a "war" with my Prodigy Internet. They no longer want to work together in peace! Currently, I can not send out any mail from O/E. When I try to send a message, the send/receive screen will lock up. I have to use Con/Alt/Del and choose End Task to get it to unlock. Of course I am booted out of O/E. To fix this problem I have performed the following steps: Examined every possible cure listed in O/E Help file - Tried all possible fixes listed under Prodigy Help file - Tried deleting the old copy and downloading a new copy of O/E - Checked, double checked, and triple checked to ensure that all of my settings are correct (they are) - Assuming that I have a corrupted Outbox, I have made several attempts to delete it - with no success. When I went to START - FIND - outbox.mbx no such animal found. System info: Compaq Presario; 5000 Series; 700 Mhz Pent III; 128 Meg RAM; 20 Gig Hard Drive. I have McAfee A/V; Zone Alarm Firewall; AdAware; Ad Subtract. I have enabled Outlook Express to bypass the Ad Subtract Filtering. McAfee last updated last night. Due to the number of newsgroups I am in, I A/V scan daily, as well as Defrag daily. I have had ongoing problems with O/E over the last 9 months- even before I added Ad Aware, Zone Alarm, and Ad Subtract. Would I be better off to switch to Netscape? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank You In Advance. 3. Hi Jess ,,,, you may not have Prodigy ver. 5 but this is a good place to start. Bob Hays _________________________________ OLEXP: Problems Using Outlook Express and Prodigy Version 5 Software -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Outlook Express versions 5.01, 5.5 for Windows 98 Microsoft Outlook Express versions 5.01, 5.5 for Windows 98 Second Edition -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe. SYMPTOMS After you install the Prodigy version 5 software, or any other Internet service provider (ISP), you may experience the following e-mail related symptoms: The Page by E-mail and Link by E-mail commands under the Send command on the File menu in Microsoft Internet Explorer may not work. The Read Mail, New Message, Send a Link, and Send Page commands under the Mail button in Internet Explorer may not work. When you try to use any of the preceding commands, your pointer may become an hourglass (indicating your computer is busy), but nothing may happen and you may not receive an error message. CAUSE This issue occurs because the Prodigy software, or any other ISP, adds an e-mail client key to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and/or the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branches in the registry that does not contain any values. When you use a command listed earlier in this article, Outlook Express checks this registry key, but does not find information about an e-mail program to start, and generates the symptoms listed earlier. RESOLUTION WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD). To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods: Method 1 Use Registry Editor to view the following registry key, and then modify the value of the Default value to "Outlook Express" (without quotation marks): HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail In this same registry key, modify the value of the DLLPath value to "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSOE.DLL" (without quotation marks), and then restart your computer. Repeat the above steps for also modifying the Default value of: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail Method 2 Use Registry Editor to delete the Mail folder in the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Clients\ -and- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail IMPORTANT: The next time you connect to Prodigy, or any other ISP, and check e-mail by using the ISP's software, the preceding registry key is recreated and the issue may resume. However, if you connect with Prodigy, or other ISP's, and then use Outlook Express as your primary e-mail client, the key is not recreated. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jess McGuire" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 06, 2001 2:28 PM Subject: [OE] A Real Mess > > Hello Everyone. > > I am having major problems with O/E.
