OK, Dick ,,, don't give up yet, ,,got a few more tricks up our sleeve. I'm not sure if the following will also include OE but you need to do it anyhow ,,,, click on start/settings/control Panel/Add/Remove Programs ,,, scroll down to and select "Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools" ,,, click on the Add/Remove button ,,, from the three options you will be presented with, choose the middle one "Repair Internet Explorer", then click OK. answer the questions to let it do its' thing. (this will examine IE and auto. correct anything it finds wrong, unless it cannot, then you will have to intervene and help it.) You can get OE 5 from the MS Win 98 update site ,,,,, follow this trail ---->> Start/Windows Update(at very top of the Start menu) ,,,, this will take you to the Win 98 update site, when there, click on "Product Updates" , answer yes to any questions and wait for the site to examine your hard disk for installed components. When it is through, you will be presented with a list of available upgrades and patches listed and labeled according to importance. All of the Critical updates should be downloaded and installed and certain ones of all the others. Some of the "others" are a matter of choice and some are a Must, such as Direct X 7.0a. The download and install will be automatic when you click on "Download selected components),,,,,,,, anyhow, back to the task at hand, to reinstall something, find and click on the blue button labeled " Show Installed Updates" , this will give you a list of updates already installed , scroll down the list to Outlook Express 5, put a check mark in the little box in front of it,,, then click on the "Download" button. OE 5 will be downloaded and installed for you. A word of caution ,,,,, before doing this, shut down any and all running programs except Explorer & System Tray, use Ctrl+Alt+Delete (CAD) to END all running programs.. If all this fails, you may have to uninstall OE5 then reinstall and hope you don't lose all your saved e-mails ,,,, may have to back them up on a floppy from C:\windows\Application Data\Microsoft\(Outlook Express & all its' sub-folders), then can replace them if need be. Good luck ,,,, again Bob Hays
Hi Bob, I was wondering - would you care to be the listowner of this mail list? You seem to know so much about OE and always have the right advice to give out for help. I only took this list on because it said it was adoptable...I would love to see someone with as much knowledge as you have to be the listowner. Please let me know what you think?
