    3. Please bear with me, as I'm not too "computer savvy." I have a problem with my address book. All my entries except for the group entries are hidden from me. When I bring up the address book, the entire right hand portion of the program is blank. What's even more baffling to me is that if my cursor land on that part of the screen, it highlights a blank yellow line, as though the info was there. Then, that line will turn blue and a yellow box will pop up with the information on the individual contact in the box. However, that box only stays up a matter of seconds and it, too, departs. But even though I might luck out and land on the individual I want, I can't edit the information or anything else. This problem doesn't keep me from sending messages. If I go into a new message form and bring up the address book for an e-mail address, all is fine. It's just when I try to get other info out of the address book, like telephone numbers, home addresses, etc., that the problem rears it's ugly little head. My "significant other" accessed my address book immediately prior to this situation, but he says he didn't do anything...right!!! I certainly would appreciate any help on fixing my address book. The problem is that I now rely on it for all my phone numbers, even if someone has no e-mail, since I'm usually sitting right here in front of my computer, and it's so handy. 3. OH-BOY ,,, this one has me scratching my head, the Turn blue and yellow information pop up box is a normal response to placing your mouse on something. All clues indicate that somehow the Background or text color has changed so that they are the same color ,, result = invisible text , and for the life of me, I cannot find a way to change either of them. You did not say what color the background was in that right hand panel ,,, what is it ?? ,,, and what about the left panel ?? Also I assume that you have Addresses/View/Folders and Groups selected along with Details ,,, these settings will give you an address book display with a left and right hand panel, Group folders on the left & the people in them on the right ,,,, and no, you cannot edit anything in the right hand panel, double click on a contact name or select Properties for a contact name which will bring up the information window for that contact ,,, this is where you do any editing for a contact. While you are in there, see if you have a "Shared Contacts" folder, if so, see who is in it, if someone totally unknown to you, delete them ,,,, no telling who you may be sharing all your information with. <g> If I am correct about your Addresses/View/Folders and Groups settings, try a test, --->> remove the check mark in front of "Folders and Groups, this will change your address book to a single panel display ,,,,,, can you now see all your contacts and their information ???? 3. I think I've tried most of what you asked before I wrote, but let me just tell you to make sure. All my OE, including address book is white/gray background with black lettering. I have Addresses/View/Folders and Groups selected, along with details. This gives me an address book display with smaller left and larger right panels. When I highlight Shared Contacts, nothing comes up except immediately below is a + sign, a folder icon and the typed line "Personal (Hughes) Contacts." When I select the Personal Contacts, and just open the folder icon, nothing shows. When I select the + sign, I get my Group Contacts. Excuse me, when I just now selected the + sign with the folder icon showing "open," I got a blank gray horizontal line the width of the right hand column and the height of one row of type. The lines of type are invisible on all colors, i.e.., the white, yellow and dark blue. Thank you so much, Bob, for taking the time to "walk" me through this. Please don't give up on me. And if anyone else has any suggestions, please send them. Nothing is too silly to try at a time like this. Surely this list ought to be able to "Think Tank" this problem and come up with an answer for the archives. I'll be out for a few hours, but I will respond as soon as I can...tonight, for sure. Elizabeth PS. When I remove the Folders and Groups check mark, the entire bottom of the Address Book is blank/white. ``````````````````````````````````` ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Hays <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 13, 2000 1:16 AM Subject: Re: [OE] Address Book > OH-BOY ,,, this one has me scratching my head, the Turn blue and yellow > information pop up box is a normal response to placing your mouse on > something. > All clues indicate that somehow the Background or text color has changed so > that they are the same color ,, result = invisible text , and for the life > of me, I cannot find a way to change either of them. > You did not say what color the background was in that right hand panel > ,,, what is it ?? ,,, and what about the left panel ?? > Also I assume that you have Addresses/View/Folders and Groups selected along > with Details ,,, these settings will give you an address book display with a > left and right hand panel, Group folders on the left & the people in them on > the right ,,,, and no, you cannot edit anything in the right hand panel, > double click on a contact name or select Properties for a contact name which > will bring up the information window for that contact ,,, this is where you > do any editing for a contact. > While you are in there, see if you have a "Shared Contacts" folder, if > so, see who is in it, if someone totally unknown to you, delete them ,,,, no > telling who you may be sharing all your information with. <g> > If I am correct about your Addresses/View/Folders and Groups settings, > try a test, --->> remove the check mark in front of "Folders and Groups, this > will change your address book to a single panel display ,,,,,, can you now > see all your contacts and their information ???? > Waiting on pins and needles > Bob Hays > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Elizabeth Hughes" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2000 1:45 PM > Subject: [OE] Address Book > > > > Please bear with me, as I'm not too "computer savvy." 3. File this away in the back of your head ,,,,,, if you had a totally blank address book (no contacts or Groups entered), you will get a totally empty white right pane (no gray horz. bar). This gray bar appears ONLY when there is an entry in the address book, including Groups. This means that when you select your main folder ,,, Personal (Hughes) Contacts ,,, there should be a gray bar across the right pane, even if there were no individual contacts entered, your Groups would also be listed here and THEY would produce the gray bar. You said:::: "When I select the Personal Contacts, and just open the folder icon, nothing shows" ,,,,,,,,,,,, this is not right, you do have groups, so something should have showed up. You said:::"When I select the + sign, I get my Group Contacts. Excuse me, when I just now selected the + sign with the folder icon showing "open," I got a blank gray horizontal line the width of the right hand column and the height of one row of type" ,,,,,,,,, Getting your list of Groups on the left is correct, the blank gray line is not. ,,,,,,, right click on one of the groups and click on "Properties", you should get a list of all contacts in that Group and to the right of the Group name window, it will tell you how many contacts there are in it. ,,,,,,, how many contacts are there and can you see them ??? Lets also check this out ,,,,,,, from your mail program ,, File/Identities/Manage Identities ,,,, The large window at the top will list all identities you have created, if there is more than one, select the one you want to use, then make sure the next window down has the same name in it and the little box (Use this identity when starting a program", has a check mark in it. ,,, then make sure the third window down also has the same name in it. The bottom line here is make sure that all three of these windows have the same name in them and they should match EXACTLY (minus the word "contacts"), the name of your main folder that appears in the left hand panel of your address book when you open it.
