Hi... I am new to the list. I have Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. I don't know "how" I got OE but, when I installed NetZero I went to their Customer Service page and set up Outlook Express according to their instructions. Now, I have installed NetZero on my mother-in-law's and Aunt's computers and cannot for the life of me find how to install or download Outlook Express. NetZero has changed their homepage several times and I cannot find any indication that I downloaded or somehow got it from there. I have checked on the MSN updates page and cannot find anyplace to get Outlook Express. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. Laura Miller
You *should* be able to delete the screwed up identity account entirely. That's one of the blessings (?) from the Microsoft folks in OE.....if digests are sent in MIME, we don't have the option to read them inline, which is what it's called when it comes as all one message. (Netscape does; you can tell it you want to do that and it will convert them.) Thank you so much for responding. The base of the problem I believe, lies in the fact I have a terrible time explaining things properly. I kinda feel like the dummy who tells her hubby something is the matter with the car , with "that little thingy goes kawhomp". I am really computer stupid!! OK, evidently, when we set "identities" with my daughters name, then whatever scared us off, we decided to "remove" her name thinking it would take us back. I think it asked us to type in the name and I hurriedly typed my name again , but misspelling it. Then whatever we did, set up a new empty email with the "welcome" message, asking me to enter the email address, and for incoming and outgoing mail. That evidently set up a new OE account with the misspelled name. Now---when I click on "Identities"--"switch identities"--only name there is "Mamie Tate(default), my original name with the correct spelling, and the "Log off current identity" statement. So no way to switch back to where I was in the beginning. But when emails are sent, and come back, they have the misspelling of Mamie Ttae. When I click on the "Log off current identity" it gives me "are you sure you want to log off the current identity?" I've already messed up so much, that statement sounds "fatal" to me. and I'm scared to click on it. Especially since there is not another name in the "switch identities" to change/click to. I hope this explains better? I'd like to welcome y'all to the list..... I'm not an OE guru, by any means, but I use it....and I'm married to a programmer (who uses Netscape<g>), so between all of us on the list I hope we can sort out any problems anybody's having.... Please feel free to introduce yourselves. Megan "Piglet" Zurawicz [email protected] RootsWeb Community Mentor and General Dogsbody http://communities.rootsweb.com
Okay, what I *think* you want to do, if I understand the problem right, is to go to tools, then accounts, then properties, then general. This should be where you change that....let me know if that doesn't work. I subbed just now when I found there was a list for OE. I desperately need help. We were messing around with the "Identities"trying to set an identity for my daughter. We got in over our heads, and tried to back out by just clicking remove on her name. But she did something and I did something and now we are in a mess. We ended up with a new OE, but with the same email address, but mail coming back to me has my name misspelled. I also "lost" my other address book. I can access it by going through "find">"people". Can anyone please help, I'm a big computer dinosaur in tears, my nerves are shot!!!! Mamie
I did have "save a copy" checked and I even unchecked it, then re-checked and re-applied it. Thought maybe that might bring it back in but it didn't. My server said that since everything is checked appropriately, I'll have to uninstall and reinstall OE. Will that cause anything in any of the folders to be lost? Does anyone know why sent messages would suddenly stop appearing in the sent folder? None have appeared since the afternoon of 7-14. I've checked with tests and by asking people I've e-mailed if my mail is being received ok, and it is. Thanks, Sandra Mitchell [email protected]
