Just make an internal filter from the subject of the spam , * a message rule* to delete it , that way you will catch them no matter *who* is the sender , need much less filters that way ! How ever be sure if you make a rule for a message it must only be about 1 word and to the item or topic, or you will be over riding other filters and some good mail will get removed. I have also made a few filters for a few spam senders via the from address but like anyone will say its not too effective. Best way I have found is to make a rule from the message text , put the subject of the spam in the message rule , this way they are all filtered out no matter what the TO or sender is and you do not have to open the message you can get it from properties if you do not use the preview pane. For lists I use the TO rule/ Dan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis Duffner" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 17, 2001 8:47 PM Subject: Re: [OE] different reply address in email than the from address > Spammers use the ReplyTo: part of the header to force where your replies > should go. Thanks Dennis for your quick response. Your suggestion of going into message and clicking on the box for deleting, is that like putting a block on that sender or is it the same as using the regular delete key. Would you mind explaining this further? Thanks again, Jeen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis Duffner" <[email protected]> My advice: Open the message, go the Message in the top menu, click on Create Rule from Message, leave the conditions alone and in the area for action, click on the box for delete it. Spammers use the ReplyTo: part of the header to force where your replies should go. In OE, I haven't found a way to use this header line, though it is there. OE appears to force the ReplyTo: for letters YOU send to the same address you entered when you set up OE. In Unix mailers, which is what most spammers use, you can set the ReplyTo: field to whatever you want. My advice: Open the message, go the Message in the top menu, click on Create Rule from Message, leave the conditions alone and in the area for action, click on the box for delete it. That way, you'll never see it. Hi, I was just curious. I have been receiving spam mail that shows a specific email address on who it is from but when you hit the reply button that is not the address that appears in the To: box. Could someone please explain to me how a person can put a different address for a reply than the address shown on where it is from. It just bothers me that the spammers know how to do this and I do not. Does outlook express 5.5 offer this capability. Thanks, Jeen
Hi everybody, This is a mail from a new member of the list. One who happens to be new to OE as well. I am trying out Outlook Express 5 as my email client. I have setup the "location of your message store" through Options>Maintenance. My question is can you do the same for the address book? i.e. can I specify anywhere that my .wab file will be in the, say, \Saumya\Personal folder ? Thanks and Regards,
The only way to do this is to edit your Registry to point to the new location, and unless you have nerves of steel and are comfortable playing with dynamite, I would suggest leaving well enough alone. I use 5 email address's ; each has its own address book, and separate message store location/ All are separate of each other / in accounts and message store in Maintenance All use the same spell checker ! <GFETE> Giggle... We use OE5.5 Our ISP offers the use of five addresses for e-mail without paying extra. we use them all: General (this one) for family business, non-genning mail Personal for each of us...funstuff and friends Genealogy...for guess what? Their terminology uses the word "account", and each account/address uses a different inbox, etc. When using one specific address in its own inbox, I use that address box which is brought up when I hit "to", or tools "Addresses". When I decide to use an address from another account, I can choose to place the contact box beside the message box and scroll. When I do it this way, I get all the addresses from each account listed...some in duplicate, etc. My question is, it possible that an address or two might not be included here for some reason? This is for my sanity if for no other reason. I thought I had entered some that I cannot find, and am trying to check other places as well to see if I just haven't entered them yet. While composing this message, I reviewed the setup, and i think I figured the situation myself. It has some thing to do with individual address books and, shared contacts...ran test. When I set up my layout to show the address book beside my inbox, it shows all the addresses for each e-mail account. This is very convenient since each list is a bit unique to its purpose. It is possible that I simply scrolling too fast, or else I am missing an address or two this way. Is that possible? Jen in AL

Tested...will just give up and trust Pam to know that I, too, majored in Spanish for awhile, but cannot use tildes, etc., when using Spanish words. She lost her list, and Hubby would rather she not use HTML because of the virus risk. What you suggested was right...I could use it with my Word processing programs just fine, but not OE... Oh well, Pam is the only one I tried it with. Thanks, and Merry Christmas! Jennifer S. Really not enough details here to narrow down the problem. I have never used NS but seems like I recall reading where NS cannot display scans in .BMP format. You could try uninstalling the character set and reinstalling. Be aware that using these in OE is very iffy anyhow, just about all the fonts extended characters will work in OE if you are working in a HTML email but not so if working in a Plain Text email. All the characters in the Times New Roman font will work in Plain Text ,,, the Symbol, Wingdings, Webdings & PressWriter Symbols fonts will give you four entirely different sets of characters but will only work in HTML. The morel here is to make sure you are using the correct font when working in Plain Text ,,,,, all the fonts work in HTML. You can test this by creating a "New Mail" and Copy/Paste characters from various fonts and switch the New Mail back and forth between Plain Text & HTML ,,,,,,, you will find out real quick what works and what don't.
