    3. If after making all the changes that is being suggested and your rule still does not work, it is probably because POP3 mail accounts do not have the ability to delete incoming mail at the server, only IMAP and HTTP accounts can do that. There are 3 kinds of mail accounts: 1. POP3 2. IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) 3. HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) (such as Hotmail) To determine which type of account you have: Tools / Accounts / Mail tab / Properties / Servers tab ,,,,, in window for "My incoming mail server is a ???? server." will be the type of account you have. For more info. on your type, open "Help" and search for your type ,,, POP3, IMAP or HTTP. I have the same message rule though mine states: Where the From line is Ha Ha Ha Delete it from Server I good suggestion when you have more variables is to change the AND (it will be underlined) in the message rule to OR This way the filter will screen on any of the variables and will delete it from the server :o) Best Wishes, Carol Hepburn [email protected] Phoenix, AZ USA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca Bowden" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 5:33 AM Subject: [OE] Message Rules > I use OE and have the following message rule: > > Where the From line contains Hahaha > and where the Subject line contains Snow White > and where the message has an attachment > Do not Download it from the server > > Yesterday I received this virus in my Inbox. 1. Re: [OE]
    2. Robert Hays
    3. MS OE 5+ has a glitch in it that can and will cause the loss of msg.,s and/or entire folders. If you have OE set to compact in the back ground ,,,, turn it off. Go to Tools / Options / Maintenance and uncheck the option to compact folders in the background. There appears to be a problem wherein when OE tries to access a folder (e.g. to put a newly downloaded message in it) while it is being compacted some messages or the whole folder may be lost. Once you have turned off background compacting, do it regularly (once a week?) by first putting OE in offline mode (VERY important) and then using File / Folder / Compact All. You may can recover your lost folders by forcing OE to build a new Folders.dbx file. Right click on Tools / Options / Maintenance tab / Store Folder button ,,,, click on the path to where your Folders & msg.s are stored and scroll to the right to see the entire path ,,,, record this path. Now, shut down OE ,,,, right click on "Start" then click on "Explore" ,,, navigate to your mail folder in the Path above and find the file Folders.dbx ,,, rename it to Folders.dbx.bob Restart OE ,,, OE will now, search the entire mail folder and build a new Folders.dbx ,,, and hopefully restore the lost folders & msg.'s. ,,,,, NOTE: this will destroy any structuring you may have had ,,, there will be no more sub folders, only a long list of folders + their msg.'s. Sub folders can be restored by Dragging & Dropping. If you do not find the lost folders ,, Shut down OE ,,, go back to the mail folder ,,, delete the new Folders.dbx and rename Folders.dbx.bob back to Folders.dbx ,,,, restart OE and you are right back where you started from, including all sub folders. Good luck Bob Hays _____________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Line" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 1:13 AM Subject: [OE] > Hi, when I C-A-D, to restart after the puter locked up, I found that OE had > ditched all of the subsidiary folders that I had created...any ideas how I > can retrieve them, and the data that was in them? 3. If your not going to use "The Bat" ,, uninstall it. Use the Add/Remove Programs in your control panel. Hopefully this will restore your e-mail associations. If not, you will have to do it yourself. I am on my way out the front door ,, be back in ~2 days. Perhaps someone else can assist in the mean time. 3. There are several ways to do it Also when you see a hyper linked name you can right click it in OE and see the address in the pop up window/ you can save the link by right clicking on http links even if they are imbedded and so you see is the name. Practice with right buttons on every thing = you might have a little fun with it <G> It is also the way to fill out your e-mail prg preferences for your personal set up, then how you set up the preferences in your advanced setting for theirs I teach OE, but on my own list for People who Modem , have had a Social Computer club for ten years teaching special interest groups J/;-) I also use visual aids on list so you can see the actual item you are working with Enjoy <G> Dan My list web site http://www.wvi.com/~wb ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Hays" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 16, 2001 12:01 AM Subject: Re: [OE] SENDERS NAME IN OE 5.5 > All I can tell you is that they are Hyperlinks ,,,, anything that is blue & underlined is a hyperlink. > You can create them yourself in HTML e-mail by clicking on Insert / Hyperlink. > A persons ISP has to do it when their name is substituted for their e-mail address ,,, if you are talking about > e-mail. > On GenForum msg. boards that is the way they do it ,,,,, the blue underlined name is a link to their actual address ,,, > the web site is just programmed that way. > That is about all I can tell you. > Bob Hays > ________________________________________________ > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Tricia and Norman Backhouse" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, March 12, 2001 8:51 AM > Subject: [OE] SENDERS NAME IN OE 5.5 > > > > Dear Listers, > > Ever since I installed OE 5.5, I have been getting some senders information in the form of an underscored actual name > ( for instance, Norman Backhouse but underscored). > > > > This is instead of the [email protected] format which I have used it seems like forever. > > > > I find that I can use the actual name format as the e-mail address when I reply to the message or want to e-mail the > sender as new mail. > > > > I haven't been able to find a reference to this by Help when in OE. > > > > Can someone please advise me what is going on ? > > > > TIA Norman Backhouse [email protected] > > > > > > > > > > ==== OUTLOOK-EXPRESS Mailing List ==== > > To remove your email address from this list, visit this url: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cheps/maillist.htm > > > > > ==== OUTLOOK-EXPRESS Mailing List ==== > To remove your email address from this list, visit this url: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cheps/maillist.htm > >

    3. All I can tell you is that they are Hyperlinks ,,,, anything that is blue & underlined is a hyperlink. You can create them yourself in HTML e-mail by clicking on Insert / Hyperlink. A persons ISP has to do it when their name is substituted for their e-mail address ,,, if you are talking about e-mail. On GenForum msg. boards that is the way they do it ,,,,, the blue underlined name is a link to their actual address ,,, the web site is just programmed that way. That is about all I can tell you. 3. Try these URL's: http://members.home.net/jlpick99/oe.htm Go here to download a tiny free file that will extract msg.s from any OE5+ .DBX folder on any disk ,,, name = DBXtract , read about it there. http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/DBXtract.htm Go here to download a very tiny free program to extract msg.'s from OE4 folders ,,, name = MBXtract , read about it there. http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/MBXtract.htm The two files above could be used as a backup tool by restoring 1 OE folder at a time. These programs extract all msg.'s contained in a folder, once extracted, you can pick only one or up to all, then drag&drop back into an OE folder. OR you can Dbl. click on an extracted msg. to open it. They will NOT restore your entire OE folder set up, Identities, address book, rules or signatures. 3. Dear Bob, Thank you for this web page which i have read in part. You'll understand why I am soewhat overpowered by the length and complexity of the process and my surprise that Microsoft set up software which needs this kind of effort to do a basic and necessary process such as backup. I'm going to print it next week and read it in an arm chair probably with a drink. I'll send you brief notes on progress.
