Well Jennifer ,, you have lost me, cannot figure out what you are doing to open these msg.s. You said "some times the titles in the boxes" did you really mean this to be plural ?? (more than one box) You said "are in very narrow slits" ,, plural again, this indicates that each msg. is in a window by itself. When I open a digest, all the msg.s are listed in one window and you scroll up/down to view the titles. I need a detailed step by step account of how you get to these digest msg.s . If you are interested, there is a very simple, fast way to extract these msg.s from the digest so you will not have to deal with them in digest form (for OE 5+ only) . The steps required is no more than what is required to open an individual msg. from the digest and once extracted, they are no different than any other single email msg., one click to read contents. I have my OE5.5 set to list incoming mail without opening...in case of viruses, etc. When the digests from rootsweb arrive, some times the titles in the boxes are in very narrow slits, and I can hardly hit the titles to open the messages. Sometimes everything is fine. What gives? Jennifer Braswell [email protected]

I've noticed some people have changed their e-mail address when they send a message to a RootsWeb List. They do this by adding or removing something obvious from their real address. I have Outlook Express 5. How do you do this? Can it be done in such a way that messages can also be sent using the real address - or does the address have to be altered again. Thanks for your help, Maureen
Well John ,, I am out of store bought answers, if you can dbl. click on any *.dbx file (with OE shut down) and it opens OE, then the DBX extension assosiation is OK. Your problem appears to be network related and I know very little about networks. I have found out that OE will not Import from "Removable Media" ,,,, if you still have those files on a floppy, copy them onto your hard disk and try the import again. If it still doesn't work, rename your current Inbox.dbx to Inbox.dbx.old and copy the other Inbox.dbx file into your mail store folder to replace it. ,,,, if this works, we can then combine the two. WELL ,,,,, That is the same error msg. you get when OE cannot find a .dbx file. OK,, lets check your DBX file extension association: Dbl. click on the "My Computer" icon on desktop ,,, click on View / Folder Options / File Types tab,, scroll down the list to "DBX File" ,,, Opens with: should have MSIMN 1. Upper right ,, click on "Edit" under "Actions" should be "open" ,,, click on it ,, then click on "Edit" 2. In the window for "Application used to perform action:" should be "C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" ,,, including quotes If this is not what is in there, browse to where MSIMN.EXE is stored ,, click on it ,, do what is needed to enter it into the window. Be sure the entry includes the quotes. ,,, OK all the way out and try again. Lets see where this takes us. Bob Thanks for your reply, I have done exactly that but still the same error message as when trying to access over the network. John ,,,, I don't exactly understand why you can Import the address book and not the msg.'s. One thing you might try is to copy the folders to be imported on to a floppy and insert the floppy into the machine to be Imported into and Import from there. The files you want to copy are: 1. Inbox.dbx 2. Sent Items.dbx During the Import process, be sure to select the "Import mail from an OE5 store directory" option, then navigate to the disk drive. The problem you may be having now is you may not be selecting the correct mail store folder, if the Import process does not find a .dbx file, you will get an error msg. and the import will stall. Keep us posted if you need more help. Can anyone tell me or give me a link that can show me how to import messages form another machine on the network. I shared the the outlook express folder within the identities root but it will not let me access the folder over the network when finding it via the import location. I know I am doing something wrong but my mind has gone blank. I can import address books fine but am having a problem with the messages. There are some people that have moved around the office and I have set up the mail accounts fine but obviously they want there messages from their inbox and sent items folder. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards John Stevens MAM Software Ltd

Most of the folks who have installed OE6 is having this problem and the only solution found so far is to replace C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MLANG.DLL with the version you had before going to OE6. I have searched the web all night for the proper version to download and only found one (1) that !!! MAY !!! work, it can be found at: http://drd.dyndns.org/dll/winme/_index.html Other versions of MLANG.DLL that will work are: 1. ver. 5.50.4134.600 2. ver. 5.50.4522.1800 If you cannot find either of these two or the download does not work, I could send you mine (the #2 ver above) as an attachment. Unless you are a certified Beta tester, you should NEVER download and install Beta versions, they are still in the development stage and not intended for use by the general public.
