    3. But a group is so much quicker than what everyone here keeps suggesting. And I had the impression the original poster was interested in a quick means of addressing the same person at two addresses in every email she sent to that person. Then make those two addresses a group for that one single person. 3. Or just type the address in the TO field separated by a semicolon. For example: [email protected]; [email protected] Also you can add each person to your address book. Then follow these steps: 1) When your ready to send mail to them click on TO. 2) Highlight the first address and click on the TO button. 3) Then highlight the second address and click on the TO button. 4) Then click on OK. Both addresses should be in the TO field of the message. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for each address you want to send the same message to. I recommend you add people you correspond with on a regular basis to your address book. Hope this helps. 3. It was necessary to use two addresses per every email sent to reach a person. If she doesn't want to individually enter the addresses each time she can create a group for that person and both addresses will automatically appear in the "to" field when she calls up the group by whatever name she gives it. My family is a "group" -- I never enter the addresses individually, I simply begin to type fa-- and the "to" is auto-completed in OE and the email goes to all members of my family. 3. Hi Folks! I gotta get my 2ยข in here.......... Dan, listen to Robert... He's right!! I've been having trouble Compacting 'All' Folders ever since I purchased my last system (4 yrs). Always ended up having to compact one folder at a time. And still couldn't compact them all! My system would lock up or crash!! A pain!! A couple weeks ago, I did exactly what Robert said to do..... I turned off the Automatic Compacting in the background. Went Offline, then compacted All Folders for the first time!! (Took a long time, too!) Since I have only a 2GB HD, I need to conserve as much room as possible. I've always kept my system as clean as I could, consistently..... Deleting .tmp files, Internet Temp files, keeping the Recycle Bin empty, Scanning and Defraging..... But still was losing space..... Got down to 200-MB left open on my HD. Not a good thing! Someone else (I think from the Computer List) reminded me about Window Washer (completely forgotten about this program and hadn't reinstalled it). Did that.... and between cleaning with that neat little program and turning off Compacting in the background and going offline before compacting....... I have gained back up to 500+MB's, which is where I like to stay. (at least 25% of my drive open.) Robert, I can't thank you enough!!! This has been a thorn in my side for years and never could find the answer! (Never can find anything on the MS site!) Now I've got some wiggle room on my HD! Thanks, again! ede In Good Old Texas, USA! *-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-* He who begins too much accomplishes little. ~German proverb *-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*-..-*

    3. Thanks now I know. Alice Corbett ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Hays" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 25, 2001 4:17 PM Subject: Re: [OE] folders disappeared Alice ,,, ETM is correct in that the deleted item is not removed from your HD, but the space it occupies on your HD is made available for reuse. Every thing stored on your HD is stored under a file name and that file name and its' location on the HD is stored in the HD's master file structure (FAT) (File Allocation Table), when a file or folder is deleted, all that happens is the first character of the file/folder name is removed, when this happens, the computer can no longer fined the file/folder and thinks it no longer exists (or never existed) and the space used by that file/folder is again available to be reused. Unless you have super secrets to hide, there is no need to try and remove it, when something else reuses that space the old data will be written over and gone forever. A lot of deleting is one cause of fragmenting (leaves holes on HD), so defragment often, this will "cover up" most old deleted data and give you a faster operating machine. 3. Yes, I think compression is the term used by Netscape. People should be aware that compression, compaction, do not affect reading of email. They simply pull it together. Think of shuffling a stack of papers to make them neater. That's what compaction/compression do with the mail. 3. By compacting. I believe some old-time computer users may use DOS to do it, but Outlook Express permits it by deleting all items in the deleted items folder, then going to the monitor icon above the bottom right system tray and clicking on it so that it turns to "off line" mode. Then go to file/folder/compact all folders in the top menu of the Outlook Express mail program and do it. The program will compact all folders and will rid the program of all messages previously deleted. The compacting will run its own course and stop when finished. Let it perform on its own without attempting to do anything else on the computer. It will go faster that way. If you haven't done it previously it might fail finishing its job and need to be restarted. Once done it should be easier to do on a regular basis. I do it every evening as a matter of normal maintenance before shutting down the computer. 3. Alice ,,, ETM is correct in that the deleted item is not removed from your HD, but the space it occupies on your HD is made available for reuse.
