I have been told by one of my cousins, who is sight-impaired that my e-mails are coming thru with yellow print on white paper and is difficult for him to read. I have no idea why this is happening and would appreciate someone letting me know what I have done wrong to cause this and if there is something I can do to change it. Thanks in advance. A customer of ours cannot send a mail all of a sudden. They can receive mail but when they try to send one outlook express comes up with the following. Dr Watson for Windows NT An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated. msimn.exe Exception: access violation ( Oxc0000005 ) Address: Oxsf5867of Any thoughts appreciated. Regards John Stevens MAM Software Ltd
OLEXP: "Application Error in Msimn.exe" Error Message Cites Access Violation Address 0x5f5875b6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Outlook Express versions 5, 5.01, 5.01 Service Pack 1, 5.5, 5.5 Service Pack 1 for Windows NT 4.0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS After you compose a message and click Send, you may receive the following error message: Application error in Msimn.exe. Exception: access violation (0xc0000005) address 0x5f5875b6. Although you may continue to receive e-mail messages and may be able to compose new messages, you cannot send them. CAUSE This behavior can occur if either the Outbox.dbx file or the SentItems.dbx file is damaged. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, move all of the .dbx files to another location, and then import them back into Outlook Express: Create a folder named BackupMail on your Desktop. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders. In the Named box, type *.dbx, and then click Find Now. Note the path of the file name and location of your mail folders (the files that end in *.dbx). Note that if you use identities, users all have their own mail folders. Copy and paste the .dbx files in the mail folders into the BackupMail folder that you created on your Desktop. Verify that the Folders.dbx file has been copied to the BackupMail folder. This file is necessary for the import functions in Outlook Express. Start Outlook Express 5. On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Messages. Click Microsoft Outlook Express 5. Click Import mail from OE5 store directory, and then locate the mail folder that you created. When you receive the prompt to select the mail folder that you want to import, click All Folders. WORKAROUND To work around this behavior, create a new Identity, and then import messages to the new Identity. To see how to create a new Identity in Outlook Express, click the article number below and view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Q209169 OLEXP: How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Express 5 To import messages from the old Identity to the new Identity: On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Messages. Click Microsoft Outlook Express 5. Click Import mail from an OE5 Identity, select the old Identity, and then follow the steps in the wizard. SHUCKS ,,,,,,,, just so we can rule out the registry entries as the problem, lets take a look at them ,,, wont hurt a thing by just looking. Click on Start / Run ,, type in regedit ,, click OK ,,,,,,,, expand the screen that comes up to full screen. Now ,, click on the little + sign in front of HKEY_CURRENT_USER ,, look down its' list and click on the + sign in front of SOFTWARE ,, look down its' list and click on the + sign in front of Clients ,, look down its' list and click on Mail ,,, in the right side pane, what entries are in there ??? The default Value should be Outlook Express The DLLPath should be C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSOE.DLL Now look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Clients \ Mail The entries in here should be the same as above. If neither of the above has the correct entries, they need to be corrected ,,,, it is very easy to do and not all that dangerous. Bob, Thank you for the link to download the patch. When I went to do the download, it said that I already had a copy of the patch, so I went on a head and downloaded a new copy and replaced the old one. Another dialog box also said that I needed Prodigy 5 - which I already have. I added a shortcut on my desktop for O/E after the download and a short shutdown. The new shortcut did not work any better than the old ones! I am still able to access my e-mail via the Prodigy home page. This has been problem free (so far). Any other suggestions? Your assistance in resolving these problems are very sincerely appreciated. Thank you. And voila!! The message I just sent Gene appears in my sent folder. Apparently on July 14, 2001 a mysterious quirk took my calendar back to January 5, 1998. Incoming e-mail carried the correct date, and the hour was correct, so I wasn't aware it had happened. Never will understand why that happened but re-setting the calendar has restored my sent file. You may have a corruption error in your Sent Items folder To try to fix it, try this. Click File/Work Offline so that no mail checking will take place. Now click File/Folder/Compact All Folders and go get a cup of coffee while it works. Do *NOT* interrupt it or you may compound the corruption error and make the file unreadable. If you get an error message while compacting, close OE, wait a few seconds and repeat the process. Should that fail, shut down OE ,, go to C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail ,,, find Sent Items.dbx and rename it to ,,, Sent Items.dbx.old ,,,, restart OE, a new Sent Items.dbx folder will be built ,,see if it now works ,,, if it does and there are msg.'s in the old one you need to recover, go to http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/DBXtract.htm ,, download DBXtract ,, Complete instructions on the use of DBXtract will also be there. ,,,,, Copy or Move the old Sent Items.dbx.old file into the same folder where DBXtract is located ,, rename it back to Sent Items.dbx and use DBXtract to recover its' msg.'s ,, when finished, you can delete the old file. Good luck Bob Hays _________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Billy and/or Sandra Mitchell" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 04, 1998 4:43 PM Subject: Re: [OE] "Sent" folder > I did have "save a copy" checked and I even unchecked it, then re-checked > and re-applied it. Thanks. I was wondering about that too. Sally
Yap ,,, I know what files you are talking about ,, IE puts them in there every time you go on the web ,, and puts them in there ,,and puts them in there until the cup run-ith over ,,,, EVERYTHING except cookies is trash and should be deleted. If you will follow my instructions and let IE get rid of them ,, then you do not have to make any decisions. IE knows what to get rid of. ,,,,,, if it does not get rid of them, then get back here and we will do it manually. Those folders under Content.IE5 look weird because they are part of a security scheme by MS ,,,, how many of them there are and their names keep changing ,, this is to keep any hackers from finding what is in them (cookies) ,,, Bob Hays _________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gene Kelley" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2001 9:33 PM Subject: Re: [OE] Number of Files > Bob > > Thanks for the information. Hi Gene ,,, It is not only safe but advisable to delete any and everything found in your C:\Windows/ Temp folder. The best way to clean out your C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files folder is to open IE ,,, Tools / Internet Options / General tab / Delete Files ,,, in the pop up window, put check mark in small box for "Delete all off-line content" ,, click OK ,, OK again. ,,,,, recheck folder + sub folders to see if every thing is gone except for cookies.
