I've been trying for decades, and mom for decades before me, to find CARRIE PATTON, possibly the widow of HUGH PATTON, both of Portland circa 1910-1928. Carrie Patton is the name on mom's birth certificate which indicates that she (Carrie) was born in Iowa and was 24 years of age when she delivered mom on 5/18/1915 at the Salvation Army facility there in Portland. Beginning in 1918, carrying through to 1928, a "Carrie Patton" was listed in the Portland City Directories variously as "Carrie Patton", Mrs. Carrie E. Patton", "Carrie Patton wd of Hugh" and just plain "Carrie Patton". The 1920 census enumerator failed to count the entire group of houses on that side of the street where she lived in that year according to the city directory...thereby, denying me the pleasure of a confirmation. Sadly, she had "remarried" according to a letter from one Mrs. Anna May Johnston (otherwise, an unknown per! son to our family) also of Portland and Carrie no longer would show as a "Patton" in the 1930 census nor in Portland city directories. Mrs. Johnston had died, without issue, many years ago and has proven to be a "dead-end" in all respects as far as research goes. QUESTION: Have You ever run across a Patton in Portland first name "Carrie" or "Hugh"? Carrie was b. abt 1890 or 1891 in Iowa and the two only "Hugh"s I ever found in Portland were b. abt 1885 ME and 1884 Ireland, respectively, according to the 1910 census for Portland.
