    1. Re: [WASHINGTON] How to find a will from 1935

    3. Dear Friend: Beaverton is in Washington County; if there was a will, it would be at the Courthouse in Hillsboro. The probate department is now in the basement, of the old Courthouse, Room B-3 (?maybe). You would ask for the old probate index; and scan through it, looking in letter S the approximate time period. If there is a probate, you make request for the file, and likely come back later (after the Wednesday trip to the storage) to the file room where you can read it., and ask for copies of certain or all pages. More recent probates are scanned into the computer; and copies of pages are available as computer printouts. The probate department will not make searches; they will send you copies of wills if the name and probate number are known. There is an index for the early probates, up to about 1920 in print; available from the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. However that does not cover the 1935 in question. Now, the big question; would a person who has taken a vow of poverty, such as a priest, have property that is in the quantity subject to probate? I have never noticed among the many probates I have read any that were drawn by a priest or a sister. However; anyone can make a will, leaving their possessions, what ever the value, if they choose to. So, the simple answer is that one, or their designee visits the Courthouse to look in the index and if the name is found, orders the copy. I would like to know how to get a copy of his will. Can someone please point me in the right direction? > Thank you! > > ==== ORWASHIN Mailing List ==== > Visit the Oregon Pioneer Project > http://www.rootsweb.com/~orpionpr/
