OREGON HISTORIC CEMETERIES ASSOCIATION SPRING MEETING. The Spring meeting of the Oregon Historic Cemeteries Association will be held Saturday, March 27, at the Washington County Museum. Hosted by the Washington County Family History Society, a local genealogical hobby group, the days events will include a tour of three local cemeteries. The Washington County Museum is located on the Rock Creek Campus of PCC, at 17677 NW Springville Road, Portland. This neighborhood is known as Bethany, and was the home of numerous Swiss and German settlers who came in the late 1800s. Saturdays program will offer incite on these emigrants, their churches and cemeteries. Elmer Grossen, lifelong resident ,will give some history of the Bethany Presbyterian church founding. His Church has prepared an updated history, which he will have available. Registration is at 9:30 AM, with program and business in the morning. Bringing our own brown bag lunch is suggested. About 1 PM a tour is scheduled to Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery; The Bethany German Methodist Cemetery, and to West Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Members of the Washington County Family History Society Jo Ann Tannock and Judy Goldmann will serve as Tour Guides. The public is invited and encouraged to come and learn more about a very interesting part of Washington County; a once rural section that has changed dramatically in the past few years. The Oregon Historic Cemeteries, Assn is a statewide non-profit interested in the preservation of records, and promotes the conservation of old cemeteries.
