Marty Fenimore and I are 3rd cousins and we have traded information many times but we have not found any further information on our Gates family.It looks like we are at a dead end and we both get frustrated in our searches. Several years ago I talked to a great-granddaughter of Alonzo Gates( brother of Thomas) and she told me that her "daughter had read a newspaper article in an old Portland newspaper (1870's )that CYNTHIA YORK GATES had drowned in the Columbia River and that the GATES family was related to the Mayor of Portland,Oregon at that time" but I do not seem to find a connection there.
