    2. Maxine Wilton
    3. I beleive that priest and sisters of the time didn't own or weren't allowed to own any tangeable property. If they did it was most likely to become the property of the Order or Place they were in residence at time of death. If they became an heir in a will then whatever it was that they recieved I belive became the property of same unless it was turned over to charity or the other member's of the person's family. I don't know about today's rules etc. may have changed. I was of the faith for 34 yrs. Not now. mmwaw@sprynet.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith E. 3. Dear Friend: Beaverton is in Washington County; if there was a will, it would be at the Courthouse in Hillsboro. The probate department is now in the basement, of the old Courthouse, Room B-3 (?maybe). You would ask for the old probate index; and scan through it, looking in letter S the approximate time period. If there is a probate, you make request for the file, and likely come back later (after the Wednesday trip to the storage) to the file room where you can read it., and ask for copies of certain or all pages. More recent probates are scanned into the computer; and copies of pages are available as computer printouts. The probate department will not make searches; they will send you copies of wills if the name and probate number are known. There is an index for the early probates, up to about 1920 in print; available from the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. However that does not cover the 1935 in question. Now, the big question; would a person who has taken a vow of poverty, such as a priest, have property that is in the quantity subject to probate? I have never noticed among the many probates I have read any that were drawn by a priest or a sister. However; anyone can make a will, leaving their possessions, what ever the value, if they choose to. So, the simple answer is that one, or their designee visits the Courthouse to look in the index and if the name is found, orders the copy. 3. Lori, I don't have any information on the BUSH family in Oregon, but I noticed that your last name is REINING. My fraternal grandmother's maiden name was Reining so I'm always interested in anyone named Reining! My grandmother, Frances Reining Baines was born in Buffalo, New York. She had one brother (many sisters) named John but I don't have any more information on him. Their parents were both born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. Any chance that there's a connection with your family?
