    3. Mark Hoffman in Washington County Records Mentioned only when he married Evalette Collins, 26 Dec 1880 at the house of A.M. Collins Wash Co Book 1 page 375. Her uncle Rodolph Crandall was a witness; he was a Washington County Judge. NO Mark Hoffman in the Washington County Probate Records; also NO guardianships for minor children. NOT in Wash Co. Coroners records. Eva was the daughter of Alvin M. Collins and Lydia Crandall. These persons are buried in Hillsboro Pioneer Cemetery; but no Hoffmans in that lot, Lot 36 Masonic Section. There are obituaries. No Mark Hoffman in Forest View at Forest Grove; or Mtn View Memorial Gardens, Forest Grove; or Cornelius Methodist, nor the smaller cemeteries in the NW part of Washington County. My obit file does not contain much before 1891. No Mark Hoffman. Not in Riverview, the only Multnomah County book that I have. Eva Hoffman of Multnomah County married Ed Williams AT HER HOUSE 8 Aug 1889; Multnomah Co Marriage Book 7 page 222. There may be more records in Multnomah County. 3. There is no death index for Oregon til after 1903 and then it is sketchy til about 1920. Try putting his name, Mark Hoffman, into the Oregon Archives name search site and see if there is any listing for a probate for him. If not try land records at McMinnville for Yamhill co. and the Washington co. courthouse, I believe that is Hillsboro. Good luck

    2. The Masons have a site on line. I was able to go there and find an officer from the Masons in IL that my grandfather belonged too. My grandfather died young before I was born, I was lucky to get information from all my family, but none of them ever told me anything about him being a Mason. One day my dad told me about grandpa being a Mason but he didn't know anything else. I contacted them and found my grandfather to be a 2nd degree Mason. They were very helpful, & friendly and offered to help in anyway in my search. Good luck to you on this. Tammy

    3. Does anyone know where to find information about local Masonic heritage of Hillsboro and possibly Forest grove? I have a relative John H. McNAMER who was a Mason in Forest Grove area, and another lady Mary M. (NORCROSS)McLEAN who was a Worthy Matron of OES and was also in Rebekka, who lived in Gales Creek, and later in Hillsboro. I'd love to find out more about them. When I was growing up in the middle 1970's in California they had photos of the installed officers (such as OES and Job's daughters and Demolay) in the local papers. I am thinking if they did this in Washington co papers, I might be able to dig up a photo of Mary as I have none now. That is my only hope. Anyone know if the early 1900-1920's they put photos in the papers of these groups. Any idea where I could write to learn more of local Masonic groups? I tried OES state and national headquarters and got no response. Thanks, Marianne Monagle mariannemonagle@comcast.net

    3. I am aware of only the University of Oregon, Knight Library, in Eugene that has a large collection of newspapers from all over the state on microfilm. They made a special project of collecting. Other newspapers are archived by the publishers in some cases in their places of business. Often newpapers did not know the value of keeping an archive; their collections are hit and miss. A lot of them the actual newspapers do not survive. There is a smaller collection of microfilm at the Oregon Historical Society Library; and also at the Multnomah County Library, downtown main branch in Portland. I have found local newspapers on film at city libraries when doing research in other Oregon communities. The Oregonian is indexed, at the Multnomah County Library; a big name/subject film is kept on the third floor. It is possible that given newspapers have been indexed in their towns of origin. There are other readers of this list that may have more detail. 3. Ancestry shows three Ora Myers' deaths in Oregon...the one in 1940 is shown below. Name: Myers, Ora County: Washington Death Date: 24 Aug 1940 Certificate: 236 Spouse: Alice In Oregon, death certificates over 50 years ago are in the Archives in Salem. For an obit, I would suggest you go to your local library and ask them to order in on interlibrary loan, the August 1940 Portland Oregonian on microfilm. You might also want to check the Portland Journal as there were two papers in the city at that time. You can then search for his obituary and any other story about his death. Since he died relatively young, there may be more information there for you. Good luck with your research.
