Lotta was born 13 Aug 1887 we believe in South Dakota, probably the Sturgis, Meade County area. She died 28 December 1980 in Sacramento, California after living for many years in Washington and Lincoln Counties in Oregon. Quite possible while in South Dakota, she was married to a Hurd or Heard. She did marry Fred Loyd Fox in South Dakota sometime before 1912 and probably, but not sure, after 1909. Fred was born about 1887, possibly New York and died 18 March 1929 in Lincoln County, Oregon; possibly an accident or killing. Any help or leads would be appreciated. Sincerely, Mike Peterson

Subject: The search for Sarah L. "Visa" Darland or Darling continues Some months ago I posted a message "Searching for 2 Sarah Darlands". You were all extremely helpful. We believe my great Aunt Sarah died of typhoid at about the age of 12 and was buried on the family farm. At that time I did not have property information. Since that time I have established that my great grandfather George H. Darland registered for the 1870 census as a "country merchant" at Forest Grove and my cousin has located information in County Deed Books. My cousin has traced the property as far as the Index for Washington, OR Deed Books. My Family Property is listed in the 1882-1887 books Book S and Book Y with page numbers. Other family member property informatin is in earlier books. What is your recommendation on the best way to proceed at this time? Do I have enough information with the: County Date range grantor and grantee Book number and page number To have some one do a search for me? Would it be best to call Washington County or Salem? I have about 7 properties to locate with such information. Is there an internet search access address to property records? I appreciate your help and advice very much! Darwin Saylor San Diego

California Death Index shows: Harry Daniel Caton, SSN # 548-10-1438, b 14 Feb 1902, Oregon, d 13 May 1994, Fresno, mother's maiden name Fuller. Given that Oregon was not keeping birth records in 1902, the most direct evidence of his birth date and place would probably be to order a copy of his SS-5 form from Social Security. --dave

In Scappoose there was a church which may be the church now called Grace and Peace Fellowship, I think. My German ggrandparents and family were lifelong members of this church in the 1880-1940 time frame. it is located just a very short distance from the scappoose high school, on the same street, but I do not know for sure if this is what you are looking for. I do know it had changed name since my ggrandparents time. You may want to visit the<Scappoose.com > website to see if there is any other info that may help you. Also, Scappoose is Columbia county.... born in Scappoose and proud of it.... gloria lange ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! There are several old churches on Western Union. I don't know the addresses right off, but some probably in the yellow pages. The Helvetia Commnity Church was once known as the Helvetia Evangelical and Reformed Church, and a booklet put out in 1976 lists H. Stauss as the first minister. The church is still active; Helvetia Community Church 11295 N.W, Helvetia Road Hillsboro, OR 97124 I do not know about the existance of records. There was a compilation of information done on early families in the 1970's. The church hosts in July a festival celebrating Swiss heritage, with special services, a parade of farm animals, and large picnic.
