    1. [WASHINGTON] Weather/suicide rates etc...in Washington co
    2. Marianne
    3. Dear listers, Just out of curiosity, I wonder what the year around weather in the central farming areas of Washington County are like. My ancestors grew up there and I am wondering if it rains all the time like they say it does in Portland which is right near by, how does one plow in all the mud and harvest under such conditions? Is the suicide rate in the wet areas of OR (like Portland for example) high like in Washington where it is known to be so wet and dreary all the time? Marianne S. Monagle monagle@cncdsl.com -----Original Message----- From: Marianne [mailto:monagle@cncdsl.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 9:44 AM To: ORWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WASHINGTON] Greenville, Centerville and town of Roy/Wash. CO. /Harrison Cemetery Dear listers: I am wondering if the town of Greenville is now about where Banks is and if Roy is where Centerville used to be? Also does anyone know if Harrison Cem is indexed? I do not know the answer to this question but I posed a similar question to the Mult co lib and thought I'd share this info in case anyone else is also interested in their answer. Please add to this and any info on Roy and Greenville would be appreciated if any of you are familiar with the history or such of this area. My previous question posed to the library: I am trying to find out where Centerville, Oregon is? It should be near Forest Grove in Washington County.(I am afraid it is no longer in existence) My ancestor ran a Grist mill there, c. 1860-1872 and I'd like to learn more about this "Centerville Mill". Answers/Sources & Comments: The listing of current geographical names for Oregon does not list Centerville. The following information comes from Oregon Geographic Names p. 162. " Centerville. Washington (county) Centerville was the name of a small community on Dairy Creek at the road crossing about 2 miles north of Cornelius. The principal activity of the place revolved around the Trullinger mills, but today there is little to show for it. The locality was probably named because it was about the center of the Tualatin Plains, although it may have been named because it was supposed to be near the center of the county. Centreville post office was established October 11, 1866 with Edward Jackson first postmaster. This office was closed Mar. 30, 1874. Ingles post office was established at the same place or nearby on Sept 28, 1881, with William S. Ingles, postmaster. The name of this office was changed to Centerville on Sept 2, 1889, and the office was closed Sept 30, 1904. These three offices may not have all been in exactly the same place, but they were in the same general locality." Marianne S.
