He was born in Chico CA. He was an only child and was left an orphan and at that time he was sent to live with relatives in Grass Valley OR. I believe the wife was a sister of his mother but I am foggy on that point. I remember him talking about them having a lot of children and weren't that happy to have one more mouth to feed. He worked as a shopkeeper for Union Pacific Railroad. They lived in quite a few places including La Grande OR, Omah Neb and the longest time in Portland OR. He was laid off during the depression and they came back to The Dalles. I think I remember being told that he worked delivering milk at that time, anyway I do have a picture of him in a white uniform from that time. After the depression ended he went back to work for UP.
