    3. This "Welcome Message" addendum is being sent to all current subscribers to both the List and Digest. I am sending *only* the addendum to the list, rather than to send the entire "Welcome Message," since the first part of the Welcome Message varies according to whether you are subscribed in "Mail" or "Digest" mode and it only addresses the commands that need to be sent to the server for various subscription options. The addendum, as you can see, contains only the "Rules of the Road." Thanks for reading... Cheri ********************************************** COMMON-SENSE RULES OF THE ROAD FOR ORWasco-L and ORWasco-D: 1. There will be absolutely NO FLAMING or bickering on this list! There are no exceptions to this rule, and no warnings issued. Offenders will be cheerfully removed on the FIRST offense. This is a place where we can go for help, answers to questions, and sharing of resources about Wasco County. That can't happen if people are afraid to post because they might be "flamed" for speaking up. 2. Rootsweb has a policy against SPAM, but it is left to each list administrator to define that sometimes fine line between what is a mutually-beneficial posting of information and what is outright SPAM. It is my feeling that if it is genealogy-related and is tactfully submitted on occasion to ORWasco as an informational item, it is okay to post. "On occasion" means that it is not posted at regular intervals on the calendar or by a "bot" of any sort. It must directly apply to genealogy, although it doesn't *have* to apply *directly* to Wasco County (that would be preferable, however). By "tactfully submitted" I mean that NO PRICES are posted to the list. A description of materials can be listed, along with an email address and/or a URL. Any questions about specific content or prices should take place OFF LIST, through private email. If any significant money is made from any such situation, I hope the person who benefits will make a donation to Rootsweb for, say, 5-10 percent of the profits. 3. In spite of these loose provisions for posting info that might cause a subscriber to make some money from an item that will clearly benefit genealogy efforts of subscribers, this list is NOT to be a venue for anyone's profit-making ventures. If my policies about SPAM are abused at all, the offender will be removed from the list without an opportunity to re-subscribe. Abuse includes any situation in which I discover or strongly suspect that subscriber email addresses have been plucked from this list and used as a mailing list for any commercial venture. 4. Please do not post chain letters, "forwarded" emails that have been to a million people & promise to save the world or some such thing, and don't post poetry or virus warnings either. If an item falls into this category but you feel strongly that it should be posted to the list, please send it directly to me at my personal email address, and I will send it on to the list if I feel it is appropriate. 5. I consider this the most important rule of all. We are here to have *fun* and enjoy the comradrie of sharing our research with eachother. Newbies and professionals alike are welcome on this list. Let's help eachother, be friendly, and try to accomodate the varying personalities that will subscribe here over the months and years to come. That is, after all, what these lists, and Rootsweb, are all about. Please feel free to email me with any questions and comments, or if you have problems at any time with list subscription commands.
