    3. Jackie, I'd have to check my source documents to be absolutely certain of this, but I believe the newspaper in The Dalles was going strong during the 1880s, and I know that they covered the area pretty thoroughly. I'm sure they wouldn't have missed a murder trial in town. Does anyone have first-hand knowledge of the library's microfilm holdings in The Dalles? I mean, The Dalles' own library. I would guess that they would have those and you could get them through interlibrary loan, no matter what your location. Another great resource, as unlikely as it might seem, is the genealogy section of the library at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande. They have an outstanding collection of newspaper microfilm as well as tons of other stuff. The now-retired former head librarian was heavily into genealogy, and he amassed quite a collection at the college library. I was just there about a month ago and I distinctly remember seeing that they even had newspaper microfilms from the Condon paper there. I'm not sure how far west that collection goes, but that would be worth a shot. They could probably tell you who does have them, even if they don't.
