Leader, Toledo, OR Sept. 5, 1935 FRANKLIN TILLOTSON PASSED AT SALEM RESIDENT OF TOLEDO IN EARLY DAYS SERVICES HELD AT MAUPIN, SUNDAY After an illness of several years, Franklin D. Tillotson, 71, passed away at Salem, Oregon, Wednesday, August 29th. Mr. Tillotson was born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, March 4th, 1864. When (a young many he) caught the inspiration of the westward movement and cast his lot in Colorado and Texas for a period of two years. Those states did not furnish the desired change of environment and again he moved west. This time he came to Oregon and to Toledo in 1887. He at once identified himself with the farming interests about Toledo for the next thirteen years. While following his chosen occupation and keeping in touch with the socal environments of the community, he made the acquaintance of Miss Inez M. Alexander, who in the course of time became his wife. His early ideas of farm life gathered in his native state, also Texas and Colorado, induced him to again seek a wider stretch of country to live. This time he migrated to Wasco county, Oregon where he entered into farming in a manner common to that locality and with a quite satisfactory degree of success. In 1909, the death of his good wife disorganized his entire plans and a few years later a paralytic stroke rendered him physically unable to properly handle the big farm. As time passed his physical condition grew more tottery and in 1933 he removed to Toledo where he resided until about three weeks ago, when he went to Salem for treatment. The long affliction accompained by age was too much for medical science to overcome. Mr. Tillotson was a man of excellent character, greatly admired by his family and friends and was tirelessly industrious and therefore an all around fine citizen. He is survivied by his son, George, of The Dalles, two daughters, Miss Genevieve, a teacher in the Portland High Schools and Miss Marjorie, teaching in the schools of Newport News, Virginia. The remains were borne to Maupin and laid beside his wife, Sunday, September 1st.
