"Maximillan Vogt, former German army officer, arrived in The Dalles in the 1860's, worked first at the Umatilla House (hotel) then opened a notions store on Front Street, later went into general merchandise, called his sister Phillipine from Germany. Together they built the Max Vogt Co., which became a builder of business buildings. The opera house pictured is one of his creations. He built the Chapman block at Second and Washington, then the Vogt Block in 1890 at Second and Federal. The 1891 fire struck his buildings, he was inactive for a while, then on borrowed money rebuilt the Vogt Block to two stories high." I am seeking photographs of the Vogt Opera House.
