Surnames: Pulliam, Yarber, Raile, Reed, Thompson, VanDyke George William Pulliam, 85, a resident of The Dalles, died at the local hospital On Thursday, October 16, 2003. He was born August 12, 1918 in Sisters [Oregon], the older of 2 children to Grover George and Fannie Lucretia (Yarber) Pulliam. He moved with his parents And younger brother to the Celilo [Oregon} area when he was a child. He Graduated from The Dalles High School in the class of 1936 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII, stationed in North Africa. After the service, George returned to The Dalles and worked as a meat cutter. He worked at The Dalles Meat Market, Brady’s Grocery, Sawyer’s Thriftway and Retired after 30 years. He married Alice Helen Raile on July 5, 1953 in The Dalles. He was an active member of The Dalles Evangelical Church, Senior Center, Eagles And Moose Lodges. He enjoyed building projects and all forms of dance with His wife including waltzes and square dancing. George is survived by his wife, Alice, of 50 years, The Dalles; his daughter And her husband, Marsha and Dennis Reed, Tigard [Oregon]; his son, John G. Pulliam, The Dalles; 2 grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Lorenna Thompson; Sarah and Rob VanDyke, both of Portland, and one brother, John Pulliam, Denver, Colorado. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Monday, October 20, from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Funeral services will be held at The Dalles Evangelical Church on Tuesday, October 21 at 11 a.m. with Tim Clemenson officiating. Interment will follow at The Dalles Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road.
