Folks, I apologize for the advertising that recently appeared on our list. I'd like to explain how that happened, and what is being done to ensure that it doesn't happen again any time soon. Our list receives "gatewayed" postings from Rootsweb's Wasco County message boards. The posting that recently annoyed us all came to us via that route. The same message was posted to hundreds of other county boards and went to most of those lists as well before Rootsweb became aware of the problem and blocked that person's postings from the system. Rootsweb also deleted the postings from the message boards immediately. Unfortunately, none of that took place before the email reached our mailboxes. When this happens, there is nothing I can do to keep the email from going to the list the first time. I can keep that person from posting again, but I can't keep it from happening the first time. I wish I could. The only way that would be possible would be if I discontinued having the Wasco County message board postings "gatewayed" to our list. Of course I will do that if this develops into an ongoing problem, but for right now it's an isolated incident. It has been managed as best it could be under the circumstances. I appreciate your patience when the occasional spammer manages to make it through the security system. Rest assured, if they make it through once, they aren't likely to ever make it through again. If you have any comments or questions about this, please email me directly -- let's not clutter the list with further discussion of this matter. On the other hand, if you have information or questions to post about Wasco County, this list could use some livening up right now! -- Cheri Dohnal, List Administrator & County Coordinator Author, "Columbia River Gorge: Natural Treasure on the Old Oregon Trail" (Arcadia Publishing) Get your signed copy directly from the author: http://www.historysavers.com/publications.html
