SON OF ARLINGTON RESIDENT MAKES HIS PRESENCE KNOWN IN BAHRAIN By Mea Williams NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY, Bahrain While Operation Iraqi Freedom is officially over, signs of destruction Remain as a result of the war. As the military rebuilds Iraq, Navy Sailors Stand guard, providing base security and assisting in the maintenance of Regional stability. Petty Officer 2nd Class Gary Harriger, stationed with Patrol Squadron Forty (VP40), helps to further the agenda of returning order To Iraq. The squadron flies long-range anti-submarine patrol aircraft (P-3 Orion). Harrier, Son of Larry Harriger of Arlington, Oregon works as an aircraft Structural mechanic and spoke of the obstacles that awaited him in the Middle East. "The biggest challenge my unit and I had to face was the heat." Harriger says being stationed in Bahrain makes him appreciate where I come From. "I realize how much of life is taken for granted." Although Harriger Misses the climate and freedom back home, he really enjoyed working with such A small unit. Like many of his fellow sailors, he often thinks about home and the first things He wants to do when he returns. "I'm going to take the SAT's and get started With college," said the 1999 Oakridge High School graduate. While standing duty in Bahrain, Petty Officer 2nd Class Gary Harriger and his Unit continue to help establish peace in Iraq and rebuild a country liberated By the war.
