WASCO COUNTY INMATE DIES IN PRISON John Craven was convicted for 91 murder, rape By the Associated Press SALEM Prison officials say an inmate from Wasco County found dead at the Oregon State Penitentiary hanged himself with a bed sheet. Penitentiary spokesman Michael Yoder said John Patrick Craven, 33, was found Friday night during a routine cell check. They cut him down and tried to revive Him but could not, Yoder said. He had arrived at the prison in 1991 and was serving a life sentence for Aggravated murder and rape. He was convicted for the murder of Mary C. Walch, Who was found dead in her apartment on Liberty Street on November 8, 1991. She Died of a stab wound. She was 46. Craven was in a single cell in the disciplinary segregation unit on the third Floor of the maximum security prison in Salem. The Dalles Chronicle October 13, 2003.
