Surnames: von Borstel, Chambers, Cunning Carl Holmes von Borstel, 74, a resident of Corvallis [Oregon], died in a Hospital there Sunday, September 21, 2003. He was born October 17, 1929, in Kent [Oregon] to Theodore and Mildred von Borstel. He grew up in Sherman County where he spent his career as a wheat And cattle rancher on the farm, which has been in his family since 1886. He lived in Corvallis for the last four years on Stahlbush Island next to his Daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Bill Chambers. He was very involved with the L.L. Livestock 4-H Club helping children with Their sheep and beef projects. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s Sporting events, gardening and traveling. Survivors include his six children, Karen von Borstel, Vancouver, Washington; Sister Krista von Borstel, Beaverton [Oregon]; Larry von Borstel, Grass Valley [Oregon]; Karla Chambers, Corvallis; Lee von Borstel, Grass Valley; and Kay Cunning, Vancouver, 12 grandchildren and a friend and companion, Mary Fields, Corvallis. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 24, at 9 a.m. at Shepherd Of the Valley Lutheran Church in Corvallis. A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. at the Grass Valley Cemetery, with a community dinner afterward at South Sherman Elementary School in Grass Valley. Visitation was Tuesday at McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis, which is in care of Arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Benton County 4-H through the Oregon State University Foundation.
