Surnames: Childers Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2ZB.2ACE/306 Message Board Post: Dora Childers Dies; Served UP For Years Dora Edna Childers, 84, a resident here for the last 55 years and a former Union Pacific Railroad telegrapher and clerk died Sunday at a local hospital. Mrs. Childers was born Feb. 21, 1887 at North Powder, Ore., and was graduated from Baker High School. She became a chief telegraph dispatcher for UPRR, her first headquarters being the old Portland Hotel. She began work in The Dalles in 1916 and served as chief clerk at the passenger depot, retiring three years ago. She was married in 1932 to Paul W. Childers, who died in 1943. Mrs. Childers was a member of the UP Old Timers Club, the Emory T. Mulquin Chapter, Morse Telegraphic Club, Inc., and the National Travel Club. She was widely traveled, having made trips to many parts of the world. Surviving are six nieces, including Arlene Free of Hood River, and two nephews. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Smith Callaway Chapel. The Dalles Chronicle Monday January 3, 1972 Page 2 Note: Tuesday January 4, 1972 it was reported in the paper above that Dora Edna Childers was to be cremated at Portland Memorial with Smith Callaway Chapel in charge.
