The Dalles Chronicle Tuesday, February 14, 1950 Front page Brief Illness Fatal to Martin Silas Evans Martin Silas Evans, 81, resident of The Dalles for the past 55 years, died at his home yesterday following a brief illness. He was born June 2, 1868, in Lawrence, Kansas. Mr. Evans is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Effie Oaks and Mrs. Myrtle Cooper of The Dalles, Mr. Lou Potts of Stevenson, Washington, Mrs. Nellie Sauters of Lyle [Washington] and Mrs. Ellen Bowers of Bend [Oregon]; a son, Roy Evans of The Dalles, and a brother, Charles Evans of Centralia, Washington. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Time and place for funeral services will be announced later by C.R. Callaway & Son.
