Martin, of The Dalles, Ore., was taken from the river one-half mile west of Cooks about 8 o'clock Wednesday evening. Two hours before, the floating body had been discovered by members of the S.P. & S. railroad crew working near that place. Sheriff Reid and Coroner Wright were notified and left immediately for the scene. Identity of the remains was made by Mr. Martin and a brother, of The Dalles. It was reported the boy, 17 years old, had disappeared on May 22, while working on a barge at The Dalles and efforts to locate the body had been futile. He was a student at The Dalles High School, the father said. The family home was on Chenowith road. Oscar Gardner and son, White Salmon Undertakers, were called to the scene in time to assist in removing the body when it was taken to White Salmon. This was posted for reference only. I am not related to, nor am I researching this family. If you have additional information about the family or event listed above, please post it as a reply to this message.
