Hello, My great grandparents, Ernst W. Wilhelm and Josephine Schneider, both immigrants from Prussia, are first located in Wasco County, OR on 29 November 1864 when their second son, Anton A. was born. This family crossed the Plains to Oregon in 1860, but I am unable to find them on the census for this year. They first settled at Jacksonville, OR where their first son Herman Joseph was born on 22 November 1862. My grandmother, Catherine Wilhelm, born 24 November 1858 in Iowa appears to have been the first born child of this couple. I locate the Wilhelm family on the 1870 census in Wasco County, but I cannot find them in 1880 even though I know they were in Wasco County from other records. Ernst was an orchadist located at 15 Mile. He died at age 56 on 7 July 1893 in a confrontation with his son Herman Joseph. I have the newspaper account of this affair, but need a copy of the coroner's inquest. I need the date and place of Ernst's birth and hopefully the inquest document will supply it. He was granted citizenship in 1877, but I do not have his letter of intent and, again, this document may include date and place of birth. Additionally, I need the disposition of Ernst's estate which I understand was considered to be quite substantial in those times. The only document in the OR State Archives re the estate is a copy of Josephine's waiver to be administrator. I have been able to locate Josephine's origins in Prussia. She was born Josepha Francisca Theresia to Anton Schneider and Francisca Hoffmann in 1831 at Neustadt, Schlesien. I can provide specific detail if anyone is interested. She died in 1911 in a Catholic home for the aged in Portland, and is buried in a Catholic cemetery at the Dalles. According to the 1900 census she emigrated to America in 1854, but I am still searching for a ship's passenger list for her. According to family lore, Ernst came to this country as a stowaway. Can anyone help me with this family? Ernst and Josephine are my mother's grandparents and are a priority research project for me. I am more than willing to pay for research time and cost of documents.
