    3. I suspect you're talking about Lorna Elliott, the main gal in the genealogy section of the library. She's a dear. I called her when I first took the Wasco Co. GenWeb site, to see what she would agree to let me post online and to get a feel for what kind of help we can all expect from that end of the world when we don't live there (I'm in Spokane, Washington). On the down side, she's a bit anti-Internet, I think because she can see a potential for a mountain of work added on to her rather than the ease that would result from something as simple as having an email address for the library. Maybe she's also been influenced by the bad press about the Internet. She also has an aversion to providing any records to be posted online. I think the key word there is "control." :-) BUT, on the definite UP side of things, she will work her rear end off for any of us, to get us anything we need. She doesn't even require a whole lot of information about the person in question, and in many cases she already has a file full of goodies on a particular family because of a search she's needed to do in the past (this happened with my own family -- the HURSTs). She's totally "into" what she does there, very enthusiastic about history and about genealogy in particular, knows everyone around and knows the library like the back of her hand. If it's there, Lorna can find it. All we need to do is to remember that she's only one person, so we need to be reasonable with our requests. Like anything, there are a few trade-offs. Perhaps we can show Lorna what great people are using the Internet these days to beef up their family history pursuits. If she has a good experience with us as a whole, she might become less reluctant to take steps toward getting the library's catalog online, or to get an email address for answering queries. But if we have to choose between having the library online and having Lorna stay happy with what she does, I vote to keep Lorna happy. Our resources will still be available that way, and we will have a terrific woman to help us get what we need when we're far away. We're very fortunate to have her there, as well as to have the genealogy society that is associated with the library. I hope to get to meet them all during my trips to the area this summer. -- Cheri puny@mail.com --->>>^<<<--- Wasco Co., OR GenWeb site--> http://www.historysavers.com/orwasco/
