One more comment and then I promise to shut up ... I 'm getting too gabby. It was my fourth trip to the area. Two separate trips had been made by my oldest children. The object was to find my great grandfather, William P Stone"s, grave ...wanted him to have a decent marker. We had done a ton of looking in Dufur then, and over a several year span. This time I was once again in the courthouse and once again looking at courthouse records... and no such name. I had been told he was at Odd Fellows, Dufur. I saw the library up the hill, went in and was refered to this kind lady. She identified the likely newspaper for 1938 (I knew dod) and reels of The Dufur Dispatch were produced. While showing me the machine she must have noticed I was looking at it like a city kid in a barn wondering which end of that cow to grab to get milk . She took more time until I could make it work and then came by from time to time. I was able to find his obit. I made a number of baaad copies. She noticed that and helped me get it set better. She then showed me a book that listed a number of folks and included two of the family who served as pallbearers. One was still alive. I was shown where his place was ... out Wolf Run Road where Gp Stone had lived. She gave me a lot of other information, including the place to get death certificates for "genealogical purposes" All this and more as I noticed she was also pretty busy with others and other stuff. Yes, considering where I have been and many folks I have encountered, she stands out like the star she is. (Oh yes, his gravesite was found just a few months ago.. someday ask me about the way THAT happened and the selfless lady who accomplished that little deed!
