Jim and Eileen (Pinell) Brashers observed their 50th wedding anniversary at an Open house Saturday, July 26. The open house was hosted by their children at the couples home. Jim and Eileen were Lyle [Washington] High School sweethearts who married after Graduation on July 18, 1953. They purchased a small home that they expanded As their children were born. The raised two sons, Jim Jr., North Bonneville [Washington] and Bill, Lyle; And one daughter, Brenda Shinnick, Placerville, California. Their home is full of pictures of their five grandchildren and is surrounded by Beautiful flowers. Eileen worked at Jantzen, Inc. for nine years and currently owns and operates Eileens Ceramics. Jim worked in construction, oil delivery and logging until his retirement in 1997. The kidney he received from his son Bill has made his retirement much more pleasant. Fishing, gardening and upkeep on the log truck keep Jim busy when They are home. The couples two black labs and two cats travel with them when they hit the RV [recreational vehicle] road. Bill and Virginia (Haug) Johnson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary On Saturday, August 30. Their children will host an open house at St. Peters Parish Center from 2 to 5 p.m. and invite friends to join them. They were high school sweethearts graduating from The Dalles High School in 1950. They were married August 30, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1954 and entered the USAF Pilot Training program in September of that year spending three years on active duty And 8 years in the Air Force Reserve. They returned to The Dalles in 1957 to operate a wheat and cattle ranch in the Columbia District, operated a farm equipment business and worked as a partner At Mid-Columbia Insurance, retiring in 2000. The couple are members of The First United Methodist Church and the Wasco County Pioneer Association. They also contributed their time to The Oregon Wheat Growers League, Wasco County Livestock Association, the OWGL Junior Livestock Show, and Wasco County Fair and 4-H. They have three daughters, Elizabeth and Kevin Windsor, Renton, Washington, Eileen and David Evans, Rockford, Michigan, and Carolyn and Maricio Calderon, Everett, Washington. Grand children, Elisa (Windsor) and Dustin Ward, Kameron, Kollin and Elayna Windsor, Matthew and Eric Evans, Claire and Amelia Calderon and great grandsons Austin and Jake Ward. Herb and Marie (Jarrett) Lacock celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a Family dinner July 12, at Ruths Chris Steak House in Portland, hosted by their children. Richard and Edith (Logan) Pontow will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary August 22, 2003. They marked the occasion in June with a trip with family members on board a ship for a cruise along the Inland Passage of the Alaskan coast. There was also a family reunion celebration August 16 at a Thousand Trails resort, which is located close to Chehalis, Washington. They have three sons, Richard Jr., Donald and Andrew, and one daughter, Susan. They also have 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He worked for over 25 years in the aluminum plant here in The Dalles, retiring In May, 1985. Ed and Marilyn Urness were married at Zion Lutheran Church, The Dalles, on August 7, 1953, in an evening ceremony. Four generations of the Urness and Lundell families have lived in The Dalles since Harold Lundell came in 1929 and C.H. Urness in 1946. It has been a special place in which to grow up; special memories of football games at Amotan Field, baseball games at Sixteenth Street Ballpark, hamburgers at the Siberian Café, afternoon movies at the Columbia and Granada theatres. They raised four children; they and their families, are: Mark Urness, Timm and Robin (Graves) Urness, Mike and Judy (Fulton) Urness, Mary Ann (Urness) and Vincent Galindo. Five grandchildren are their special joy: Kiffanie and Eric Urness, Charlie and Mackenzie Urness and Vivian Galindo. He graduated from The Dalles High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army During the Korean War. He was stationed in Furth, West Germany. He returned to Play professional baseball with the Boston Red Sox Organization in San Francisco, California; Greensboro, North Carolina; Corning, New York and Albany New York. He then joined the family business at C.H. Urness Motors and is still a member of the dealership. She also graduated from The Dalles High School, in addition to graduating from The University of Oregon and Portland State University. She taught Senior English, English Literature, Drama and served as a Library Media Specialist at Both The Dalles High School and Wahtonka High School, Chenowith Middle School And Chenowith Elementary. Golf and travel are two of their shared interests and joys, in addition to Their shared lives with children and grandchildren and life-long friends. Their children will be hosting a reception at The Dalles Country Club on Sunday, August 17, from two to four in the afternoon. Friends are cordially invited. Root 50th Anniversary Verne and Lois (Huskey) Root celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this September. Their children will host an open house in their honor on Saturday, September 13, 2003, at the Hood River Senior Center, 2010 Sterling Place, Hood River [Oregon], from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and would like to invite friends and family to join them. They were married by Reverend Taylor September 4, 1953, in The Dalles. Both are graduates of Mosier [Oregon] High School. Except for the time Verne spent in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and attending Oregon State College, they have both Lived in Mosier their entire lives. The couple are retired cherry orchardists. He purchased the orchard adjacent to his parents prior to their marriage. They Continuted farming and bought parts of Vernes Grandfathers original orchard >From Vernes aunt, then later purchased his parents orchard when Clyde and Christine Root retired. Their son Wade and his wife Suzie are carrying on the Family tradition having purchased property adjacent to Verne and Lois orchard And currently lease their orchard. During the course of their 50-year marriage both have worked at various jobs Outside the orchard to support their family. He worked at the Sunshine Flour Mill in The Dalles as well as doing some well drilling, logging, and cement Truck driving. She worked at Mosier restaurants, Luhn Jensens in Hood River, A daycare center and at the Diamond Fruit Cannery in Hood River. They both Belong to the Mosier Grange, Mosier Legion and Auxiliary, Mosier First Christian Church, Wasco County Pioneer Association and have been active in The community their entire lives. He served for a time on the Chenowith School Board and she is a past member of the school budget committee. He has served on The board for the Oregon Cherry Growers and several years ago, they were named King Bing and Queen Anne for the annual cherry celebration. Their strong Commitment to family, friends and the community has been evident throughout the 50-year marriage. They have six children. Carol and her husband Ross Seeber of Portland, Alice and Her husband Jeronimo Montero of Aumsville [Oregon], Wade and his wife Suzie Root of Mosier, Mary and her husband Mark Barnett of Kansas City, Susan Root of Hood River, and Sally and her husband Lupe Beltran of Eugene [Oregon]. She Graduated from Woodlands High school and in 2002 she graduated from Le Tourneau University where she obtained her Bachelors of Science in psychology. She is Employed with psychologist Dr. Winston, in Longview, Texas. He is the son of Yvonne Ingebo, The Dalles, and James Hall, Dallesport [Washington]. He graduated from The Dalles High school in 1996 and from Le Tourneau University in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science in electrical Engineering. She graduated from The Dalles High in 1998 and attended Columbia Gorge Community College. He is the son of Joann and Larry Thayer of Carson, Washington. He attended Stevenson [Washington] High school graduating in 1998. Bob Guerrant and Jack Mount performed the ceremony. Bridesmaids were Tamara Patrick, Angela Beard, and Jennifer Waite, friends Of the bride; Jodi Witter and Kari Rasmussen, the brides sisters; Jennifer Seeman and Linsi Witter were honorary bridesmaids.
